Annie Martin (beach Volleyball)
Annie Martin (born 7 September 1981) is a Canadian beach volleyball player. She has represented her country at the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Her current playing partner is Marie-Andrée Lessard. University career Martin played university volleyball for the Sherbrooke Vert et Or for five seasons from 2000 to 2005. She won RSEQ conference championships with the Vert et Or in 2002 and 2005 and won national championships with the team in 2003 and 2005. Career Martin was inspired to compete in beach volleyball after seeing Mark Heese and John Child compete for Canada at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She has won five Canadian titles, in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and in 2009. Martin and her partner, Guylaine Dumont, tied for fifth in the women's beach volleyball event at the 2004 Summer Olympics, after losing to the American pair of Kerri Walsh and Misty May in the quarterfinals. Lachine, Quebec
Lachine () is a borough (''arrondissement'') within the city of Montreal on the Island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It was an autonomous city until the municipal mergers in 2002. History Lachine, apparently from the French term ''la Chine'' (China), is often said to have been named in 1667, in mockery of its then owner René-Robert Cavelier de La Salle, who explored the interior of North America trying to find a passage to China. John Child (volleyball)
John Child (born May 4, 1967) is a retired professional Canadian male beach volleyball player. Child began playing beach volleyball in tournaments at age 16, and is a graduate of Centennial College. He played in three Olympic Games; Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, and Athens in 2004. He won the bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, partnering with Mark Heese. John and his partner were the first Canadian team to medal at the Olympics in the sport of volleyball. Child lives in Toronto, Ontario. He retired at age 38. He was coached by Hernan Humana. Child now coaches and is the founder of the Leaside Volleyball Club in Toronto. Child is actively involved in the volleyball community, and his children Jenna and Adam also play. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (french: Médaille du jubilé de diamant de la reine Elizabeth II) or The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal was a commemorative medal created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession in 1952. Evgenia Nikolayevna Ukolova (russian: Евгения Николаевна Уколова; born 17 May 1989) is a Russian beach volleyball player. As of 2012, she plays with Ekaterina Khomyakova (also known by her married name of Ekaterina Birlova). Shauna Mullin (born 11 September 1984) is a British beach volleyball player, and former Scottish national indoor volleyball player. She was brought up in South Africa and Malaysia, but plays for Scotland and Great Britain. She was chosen as one of the two players to take the home nation qualification spot at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life Mullin was born in South Africa, and first discovered volleyball while living in Malaysia. Her father was a hotel manager, so Mullin's family moved around a lot while she was a child and she spent time in boarding schools. In 1999, her family moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, she took a master's degree in Management with Business Law at Heriot Watt University. Zara Dampney (born 10 June 1986) is a British beach volleyball player, and former indoor volleyball player. She was chosen as one of the two players to take the home nation qualification spot at the 2012 Summer Olympics, with teammate Shauna Mullin. Early life Dampney was born in Christchurch, Dorset, Christchurch on 10 June 1986, and lived throughout her childhood in Dorset. She played indoor volleyball whilst a student at Parkstone Grammar School, and after school went to the University of Sheffield where she studied for a law degree. She competed for the British adult team in indoor volleyball at the age of sixteen, and was a member of Wessex Volleyball Club. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and , was the most successful female beach volleyball player having won 112 tournaments in domestic and international competition. May-Treanor and teammate Kerri Walsh Jennings were gold medalists in beach volleyball at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.
