Annie-Flore Batchiellilys (born 10 April 1967), is a Gabonese singer, musician, and composer, combining traditional Gabonese forms of singing with jazz and blues. Early life Annie-Flore Batchiellilys was born on 10 April 1967 in Tchibanga, in southwestern Gabon. She is a native Punu speaker. Career Her grandmother gave her a taste for singing, but she first worked as a car mechanic. However, she was noticed in a 1988 television singing contest, ''Bonsoir musique'', by Pierre Akendengue, who encouraged her to visit a meeting place and training course that he had created, the Carrefour des Arts in Libreville. She went to France in 1990, initially following different formations, exploring Gypsy and Eastern registers, and jazz, at l’Ecole des Sirènes de Lyon. Tchibanga
Tchibanga is a city in the Nyanga Province of southern Gabon, situated on the Nyanga River. It has an estimated population of 24,000 (2008). The town lies on the N6 road and is home to Tchibanga Airport and a market. It lies near the Ivela Falls. Tchibanga is the capital of the Nyanga province. Tchibanga is home to approximately 15,000 Gabonese people, but is also home to a sizeable refugee population from Congo-Brazzaville. Kora Awards
The KORA All Africa Music Awards are music awards given annually for musical achievement in sub-Saharan Africa. The awards were founded in 1994 by Benin born businessman, Ernest Adjovi, after a discussion in Namibia with the country's President Hage Geingob. The award is named after the kora, a West African plucked chordophone. The awards have been subject to several postponements since 1994 with a variety of reasons given. Problems have arisen with contracts signed, large sums of monies have been paid and the event postponed. In 2011 Adjovi was detained by the Nigerian Police Force with allegations he defrauded three Nigerian bodies. In 2008 Adjovi allegedly accepted S2.5 million for the 2008 Awards to be hosted by the Cross River State Government. He later allegedly struck an agreement with the Lagos State Government for US$7.5 million but the awards were not staged until 2010 in Burkina Faso.
