Anne Noble
Anne Lysbeth Noble (born 1954) is a New Zealand photographer and Distinguished Professor of Fine Art (Photography) at Massey University's College of Creative Arts. Her work includes series of photographs examining Antarctica, her own daughter's mouth, and our relationship with nature. Education Born in Whanganui in 1954, Noble attended high school at the Roman Catholic girls' college, Erskine College, Wellington, Erskine College, in Island Bay, New Zealand, Island Bay, Wellington, and Wanganui Girls' College. She completed a MFA Honours (1st class) at the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1983. Work Noble's approach to her work involves "prolonged observation and attentive watching". She is known for working in photographic series. Her first major exhibition, ''The Wanganui'', opened at the Sarjeant Gallery in 1982 and toured to the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Auckland, Hamilton and Te Manawa in Palmerston North. Priscilla Pitts
Priscilla Pitts is a New Zealand writer and art curator. Biography Pitts was educated at the University of Auckland, gaining an MA in English and Art History. In the 1980s, Pitts co-founded the magazine ''Antic,'' which focused on literature and visual arts. She was also a frequent contributor to the journal ''Art New Zealand.'' From 1993 to 1998, Pitts was director of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth. She then moved to Dunedin and from 1998 to 2007 she was director of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery and Otago Settlers Museum. Between 2007 and 2014, Pitts had a managerial role at the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Since that time she has worked as a freelance writer and curator, working from Lower Hutt. PhotoForum
PhotoForum Inc. is a non-profit New Zealand photography organisation founded 12 December 1973 in Wellington "dedicated to the promotion of photography as a means of communication and expression," and is also the title of its magazine, first published in February 1974. The magazine issues were discontinued after 1984, but the organisation continues to publish a series of books on New Zealand photography and photographers with the same ISSN. One of these, number 83, is a 273 page, large format history of PhotoForum Inc. published with Rim Books and edited by art historian Nina Seja. History Background Desmond Kelly and John B. Arts Foundation Of New Zealand
'The Arts Foundation of New Zealand Te Tumu Toi is a New Zealand arts organisation that supports artistic excellence and facilitates private philanthropy through raising funds for the arts and allocating it to New Zealand artists. The concept of setting up an organisation to raise private funding for the arts was initiated by Creative New Zealand in 1997. Its chair Brian Stevenson approached Richard Cathie to chair a working party on the subject and Sir Ronald Scott was appointed consultant, with help from Gisella Carr. Early working party members and trustees included Lady Mary Hardie Boys, Lady Gillian Deane, Dame Jenny Gibbs, Sir Paul Reeves, Sir John Todd, Sir Miles Warren and Sir Eion Edgar. The New Zealand Order of Merit is an order of merit in the New Zealand royal honours system. It was established by royal warrant (document), royal warrant on 30 May 1996 by Elizabeth II, Monarchy of New Zealand, Queen of New Zealand, "for those persons who in any field of endeavour, have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and nation or who have become distinguished by their eminence, talents, contributions or other merits", to recognise outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity.
