Ann Hughes (judoka)
Ann Hughes (born 1960), is a female former judoka who competed for Great Britain and England. Judo career Hughes won a gold medal at the 1986 World Judo Championships, 1986 World Championships, a bronze in 1987 World Judo Championships, 1987 and a silver in 1989 World Judo Championships, 1989. She represented England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand and won a bronze medal in the lightweight (56 kg) category of the Judo at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, judo competition. In 1986, she also won the gold medal in the 56 kg weight category at the Judo at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, judo demonstration sport event as part of the 1986 Commonwealth Games. She is also a three times champion of Great Britain, winning the light-middleweight division at the British Judo Championships in 1982 and 1982 and the open class in 1984. References External links

Ann Hughes (politician)
Ann Hughes (born September 28, 1943) is an American politician. Born in Ogdensburg, New York, Hughes received her bachelor's degree in biology from Wells College in 1965. Hughes also went to McHenry County College and lived in Woodstock, Illinois. In 1977, Hughes served on the Woodstock School Board. She then served on the McHenry County Board in 1980 and was chair of the board. Hughes was a Republican. Ann Harriet Hughes
Ann Harriet Hughes (1852 – 25 April 1910) was a Welsh language novelist, under the pen-name Gwyneth Vaughan. Life Ann Harriet Hughes was born at Talsarnau in Merionethshire, the daughter of a miller, and had a basic school education at Llandecwyn. In 1876 she married John Hughes Jones, a doctor in Clwt-y-bont, Caernarvon; they later dropped the "Jones" part of their surname. They lived in London and later in Treherbert and Clwt-y-bont. Left to bring up four children on her husband's death in 1902, she moved to Bangor, Gwynedd, and took up writing as a career. Hughes completed three novels, and a left a fourth unfinished work. She also edited Welsh versions of three of the works of the Scottish evangelist Henry Drummond and wrote verse in Welsh. She edited the woman's page in the ''Welsh Weekly'' (1892), ''Yr Eryr'' (1894–95) ''Y Cymro'' (1906–07). Death Ann Harriet Hughes died on 25 April 1910 at Pwllheli. Hughes originated various enterprises including the Anne Hughes Coffee Room at Powell's bookstore, an eponymous art gallery, and the Kitchen Table Cafe. Anne Penny (née Hughes; 6 January 1729 – 17 March 1784) was a British poet and translator, born in Wales to a vicar and his wife. She married a privateer who owned an estate in Oxford, but was left widowed at the age of 22 with a son, Hugh Cloberry Christian. She then started writing poetry. She married a French customs officer, again with a maritime history, and the couple moved to London. There she published a number of works, including her most significant poem ''An Invocation to the Genius of Britain'', a patriotic piece written at the start of the Anglo-French War. She also published a number of translations of Welsh poems. Penny was an adherent of Welsh nationalism, and wrote a number of nationalistic poems. Though her work was criticised for its poor grammar, it attracted prominent subscribers, such as Samuel Johnson and Horace Walpole.
