Anna Gerresheim
Anna Louise Adolphine Eduardine Gerresheim (8 March 1852 – 1 December 1921) was a German landscape artist, portrait painter and etcher. She was among the founders of the artist's colony in Ahrenshoop on the Baltic Sea. Life Anna Gerresheim was born in 1852. She was the third of the eight children born to Eduard Adolph Gerresheim, a member of the Ribnitz city council, and his wife Dorothea Henriette. Although women were not permitted in art academies at that time, her parents allowed her, in 1874, to visit the art school of August tom Dieck (1831–1893) in Dresden. After the death of the father in 1876, Gerresheim spent four years in Berlin at the Prussian Academy of Arts, studying in the "ladies class" of Karl Gussow. In 1880, Gerresheim visited the artists' colony in the Danish Hornbæk. In 1882 she spent three months in London and Wales, where she fulfilled several portrait commissions. Ribnitz
Ribnitz-Damgarten () is a town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, situated on Lake Ribnitz (''Ribnitzer See''). Ribnitz-Damgarten is in the west of the district Vorpommern-Rügen. The border between the historical regions of Mecklenburg and Pomerania goes directly through the town; ''Damgarten'' is the eastern and Pomeranian part, and ''Ribnitz'' is the western and Mecklenburgian part. Geography The town is situated between the two Hanseatic cities Rostock and Stralsund, on the mouth of the river Recknitz. Peder Severin Krøyer
Peder Severin Krøyer (; 23 July 1851 – 21 November 1909), also known as P. S. Krøyer, was a Danish painter. Life Growing up and early training Krøyer was born in Stavanger, Norway, on 23 July 1851 to Ellen Cecilie Gjesdal. He was raised by Gjesdal's sister, Bertha Cecilie (born 1817) and brother-in-law, the Danish zoologist Henrik Nikolai Krøyer, after his mother was judged unfit to care for him. Krøyer moved to Copenhagen to live with his foster parents soon afterward. Having begun his art education at the age of nine under private tutelage, he was enrolled in Copenhagen's Technical Institute the following year. In 1870 at the age of 19 Krøyer completed his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Art ('), where he had studied with Frederik Vermehren. The ''Glaspalast'' (Glass Palace) was a glass and iron exhibition building located in the Old botanical garden - Munich in Munich modeled after The Crystal Palace in London. The Glaspalast opened for the first General German Industrial Exhibition on July 15, 1854. Abbey Of The Holy Cross, Rostock
The Abbey of the Holy Cross (german: Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz) in Rostock, Germany, was founded in the 13th century by Cistercian nuns. It is the only fully preserved abbey in the city. The complex includes the former abbey church which is used today as the University Church (''Universitätskirche''). The remaining former convent buildings house the Museum of Cultural History (''Kulturhistorische Museum'') for the city of Rostock. History The nunnery was founded by the Danish Queen Margaret Sambiria in 1270. According to legend, she founded the abbey in gratitude for a miraculous rescue at sea. She made large donations to the abbey. She died in 1282 and was buried at Doberan Abbey in Bad Doberan which belonged to the Cistercian Order.
