Anna Corbella i Jordi (born 1976 Barcelona) is a Catalan sailor. In 2011, she became the first Catalan-Spanish sailor to finish the Barcelona World Race . In 2011, she was awarded the Royal Order of Sports Merit. In 2010, she was awarded the IV Women and Sport Award. Life She graduated in veterinary medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Anna Corbella i Jordi (born 1976) is a Spanish sailor. She was the first Spanish woman to sail non-stop around the world and the third woman to do it twice. Life Corbella was born in 1976 in Barcelona and by the age of four she was on a boat with her parents. She studied in her home city and she graduated in veterinary medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Corbella had begun sailing early and by 1999 she was the Spanish champion in the 420 class dinghy. In the following year she was the national champion in the 470 class. Barcelona World Race
The Barcelona World Race is a non-stop, round-the-world yacht race for crews of two, sailed on Open 60 IMOCA monohull boats. Following the Clipper route, it starts and finishes in Barcelona, and is organised by the Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation (FNOB). The inaugural race, contested in 2007–08 by nine boats, was won by Jean-Pierre Dick and Damian Foxall on the boat ''Paprec-Virbac 2'' in a time of 92 days. Denise "Dee" Caffari MBE (born 23 January 1973) is a British sailor, and in 2006 became the first woman to sail single-handedly and non-stop around the world "the wrong way"; westward against the prevailing winds and currents. In February 2009, Caffari completed the Vendée Globe race and set a new record to become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world in both directions. Early life Descended from a Maltese sea captain, Caffari grew up in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and attended St. Clement Danes School. Caffari studied at Leeds Metropolitan University and became a PE teacher for 5 years before beginning her sailing career. Caffari trained at UKSA (based in Cowes, Isle of Wight) completing her Yachtmaster course and a range of ocean qualifications.
