Anna Billing
Anna Svenborg Billing (1849–1927) was a Swedish painter who is remembered for her landscapes and her still-lifes. After being introduced to painting by her father Tore Billing, she trained under Swedish artists including Kerstin Cardon and became a student of the French painter in Paris. She exhibited there at the Salon in 1884. The collection of Sweden's Nationalmuseum includes works by Billing. Biography Born in Stockholm on 28 May 1849, Anna Billing was the daughter of the landscape painter Lars Teodor (Tore) Billing (1816–1892) and his wife, the opera singer Elma Charlotta née Ström (1822–1889). She was first raised in a highly cultural home where as a small child she associated with prominent figures of the times including the actor Nils Almlöf, the painter Joseph Magnus Stäck and the composer Jacopo Foroni. Uno Troili
Gustaf Uno Troili (16 January 1815 – 31 August 1875) was a Swedish portrait painter and musician. Biography He was born in Ransäter. He was a member of the priestly family with a lineage dating back to the 16th century. He showed an early aptitude for music and art and began preparatory studies at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1827. He became a full-time student in 1835 and was introduced to the local intelligentsia at the home of his uncle, the poet and philosopher Erik Gustaf Geijer. In 1837, he became a "furir" in the Värmland Rifle Corps and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1844. While in service, he studied with his cousin, Captain (1797–1875), a part-time painter of little note. He also worked with then "överstelöjtnant", Olof Johan Södermark, who became a well known portrait painter and sculptor. Nya Idun
Nya Idun is a Swedish cultural association for women founded in 1885, originally as a female counterpart to Sällskapet Idun ('the Idun Society'). Its aim was to "gather educated women in the Stockholm area for informal gatherings". There was also an early 20th-century women's journal of the same name. Activity Nya Idun was founded on 7 February 1885 in the premises of the at Jakobsbergsgatan 11 in Stockholm. Its founders were Calla Curman, Hanna Winge, Ellen Fries, Ellen Key and Amelie Wikström. The first fifteen women elected to the association's committee were Alfhild Agrell, Lilly Engström, Selma Giöbel, Therese Gyldén, Anna Höjer, Amanda Kerfstedt, Anne Charlotte Leffler, Hulda Lundin, Agda Montelius, Anna Munthe-Norstedt, Mathilda Roos, Anna Sandström, Hilma Svedbom, Anna Whitlock, and Coraly Zethræus. Gothenburg Museum of Art ( sv, Göteborgs konstmuseum) is located at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It claims to be the third largest art museum in Sweden by size of its collection.
