Ann Toth
Ann (Anna Dolores) Toth (1922–1991) was a Hollywood starlet and girlfriend of Mark Hansen, who operated the Florentine Gardens in Hollywood. She befriended and roomed at the Carlos Avenue, Hollywood residence with Elizabeth Short, prior to Short's sensational murder on January 15, 1947. On January 2, 1947 Short wrote to Toth requesting money. A few days later two men and a woman visited the home of Dorothy French, where Short resided at the time. Short appeared scared and panicky because of the visit. French stated that she did not want to answer the door and declined to see the persons. According to Toth, Short was promised extra work in motion pictures and a role in NTG's next revue at the Florentine Gardens. Hansen denied any intimacy with Short, although she was rumored to be among his numerous girlfriends. Brenda Allen (aka Marie Mitchell) was a madam based in Los Angeles, California, whose arrest in 1948 triggered a scandal that led to the attempted reform of the Los Angeles Police Department (L.A.P.D.). Allen received police protection due to her relationship with Sergeant Elmer V. Jackson of the L.A.P.D.'s administrative vice squad, who reportedly was her lover. Early career Allen began as a prostitute in Los Angeles in the 1930s, though she already had several prior morals charges in other US cities. Black Dahlia
Elizabeth Short (July 29, 1924 – January 14–15, 1947), known posthumously as the Black Dahlia, was an American woman found murdered in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on January 15, 1947. Her case became highly publicized owing to the gruesome nature of the crime, which included the mutilation of her corpse, which was bisected at the waist. A native of Boston, Short spent her early life in New England and Florida before relocating to California, where her father lived. It is commonly held that Short was an aspiring actress, though she had no known acting credits or jobs during her time in Los Angeles.
