Ann Mroz
Ann Mroz MBE is a British-Polish journalist, former editor of ''Times Higher Education'' and former editor and digital publishing director of the ''TES'' (''Times Educational Supplement''). Early career Ann Mroz’s early career was spent in music journalism and as a freelance writer. TES Global Ann Mroz joined the ''Times Higher Education Supplement'' in 1994 as a sub-editor. She became chief sub-editor and deputy editor before being appointed editor of ''THE'' in May 2008. During her time at the ''THES'', she was instrumental in overseeing the transition of the title from a broadsheet newspaper supplement to a rebranded ''Times Higher Education'' magazine. It was also under Mroz’s tenure that the magazine’s annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings took the decision to change data supplier from Quacquerelli Symonds to Thomson Reuters. Times Educational Supplement
''Tes'', formerly known as the ''Times Educational Supplement'', is a weekly UK publication aimed at education professionals. It was first published in 1910 as a pull-out supplement in ''The Times'' newspaper. Such was its popularity that in 1914, the supplement became a separate publication selling for one penny. ''TES'' focuses on school-related news and features. It covered higher education until the ''Times Higher Education Supplement'' (now ''Times Higher Education'') was launched as a sister publication in 1971. Today its editor is Jon Severs. Since 1964, an alternative version of the publication, ''TESS'', has been produced for Scotland. An edition for Wales, ''TES Cymru'', was also published between 2004 and 2011. The lack of content about Wales since its closure has been criticised by the Welsh Education Minister, Jeremy Miles. Ownership TPG Capital acquired TSL Education from Charterhouse in a £400 million deal in July 2013 and rebranded TSL Education, of which Times Higher Education was a part, as TES Global. The acquisition by TPG marked the third change of ownership in less than a decade for Times Higher Education, which was previously owned by News International before being acquired by Exponent Private Equity in 2005. In March 2019, private equity group Inflexion Pvt. Equity Partners LLP acquired Times Higher Education from TPG Capital, becoming THE's fourth owners in 15 years. Times Higher Education World University Rankings
The ''Times Higher Education World University Rankings'' (often referred to as the THE Rankings) is an annual publication of university rankings by the ''Times Higher Education'' (THE) magazine. The publisher had collaborated with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) to publish the joint ''THE-QS World University Rankings'' from 2004 to 2009 before it turned to Thomson Reuters for a new ranking system from 2010 to 2013. In 2014, the magazine then signed a deal with Elsevier to provide it with the data used to compile the rankings. The publication now comprises global, subject, and reputation rankings, alongside three regional league tables for Asia, Latin America, and BRICS & emerging economies, which are generated using different weightings. The New Year Honours is a part of the British honours system, with New Year's Day, 1 January, being marked by naming new members of orders of chivalry and recipients of other official honours.
