Ann Griffiths (athlete)
Ann Margaret Griffiths (née Williams; born 20 August 1965) is a retired English athlete who competed in middle-distance events. In the 800 meters, she won a silver medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and finished seventh in the final at the 1991 World Championships, before going on to represent Great Britain in the 1500 metres at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Career A member of Sale Harriers Manchester athletics club, Williams won a silver medal for England in the 800 metres, at the 1990 Commonwealth Gamesin Auckland, New Zealand, in a race that was a one-two for the club, with the winner being Diane Edwards. Williams ran under two minutes for 800m for the first time, when running 1:59.88 for fourth at the 1991 Europa Cup, to become the sixth British woman to break the two-minute barrier (after Christina Boxer, Shireen Bailey, Kirsty McDermott, Lorraine Baker and Diane Edwards). Diane Dolores Modahl (née Edwards, born 17 June 1966) is an English former middle distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres. She won Gold in the 800 m title at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, Silver at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, and Bronze at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Her other notable results include finishing third at the 1989 IAAF Grand Prix Final, fourth at the 1993 World Championships, and winning the European Cup in 1994. She also won six AAAs National 800 m titles. She represented Great Britain at four Olympic Games (1988–2000), reaching the 800 m final in 1988. Her career best 800 m time of 1:58.65 in 1990, ranks her 11th on the UK all-time list. Golden Gala
Golden Gala is an annual track and field event normally held at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy. Previously one of the IAAF Golden League events, it is now part of the Diamond League. Following the 2013 death of Italian sprinting legend Pietro Mennea, the organizers added his name to the title of the meet. The 2021 event was temporarily relocated to Florence. History Primo Nebiolo, the Italian president of IAAF since 1981, was the founder of the Golden Gala and had the idea to bring the athletes and the people from the United States and the NATO countries together that were boycotting the Moscow Olympics in 1980 as a result of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Lorraine Baker-Strain (born 9 April 1964) is an England, English former Middle-distance running, middle-distance runner who competed in the 800 metres. She represented Great Britain at the Summer Olympics, Olympic Games in 1984 Summer Olympics, Los Angeles 1984 and 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona 1992. In Los Angeles, she finished fifth in the final. Kirsty Wade (née McDermott, born 6 August 1962) is a British former middle-distance runner. She is a three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist representing Wales, winning the 800 metres in Brisbane 1982 and both the 800 metres and 1500 metres in Edinburgh 1986. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games and the 1992 Olympic Games. She is also a former British record holder in the 800m and the mile.
