Anlloyd Samuel
Anlloyd Samuel (October 31, 1980November 15, 2010) was a Palauan swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He became the first ever swimmer in history to represent Palau at the Summer Olympics in 2000. Samuel competed only in the men's 50 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He received a ticket from FINA, under a Universality program, in an entry time of 27.23, a Palauan record. He challenged six other swimmers in heat one, including 16-year-olds Wael Ghassan of Qatar and Hassan Mubah of the Maldives. Entering the race with a fastest-seeded time, Samuel faded down the stretch to take a third spot in 27.24, a small fraction below his lifetime best and an entry standard. Samuel failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed seventy-first overall out of 80 swimmers in the prelims. Oceania Television Network (OTV) is Palau's only Pacific Island-content television station. Founded by Jeff Barabe and Kassi Berg of Roll 'em Productions, and launched in December 2006, OTV now broadcasts on Palau National Communications Corporation digital cable channel 23. The LA84 Foundation (known until June 2007 as the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles) is a private, nonprofit institution created by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to manage Southern California's endowment from the 1984 Olympic Games. Hassan Mubah (born April 21, 1984) is a Maldivian former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian (2000 and 2004), and holds numerous Maldivian records in the 50 and 100 m freestyle. Mubah made his official debut, as a 16-year-old, at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the men's 50 m freestyle. Swimming in heat one, he posted a lifetime best of 28.86 to earn a fifth spot and seventy-third overall by a 3.43-second margin behind winner Wael Ghassan of Qatar. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Mubah swam for the second time in the 50 m freestyle. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile.
