Ankara–Sivas High-speed Railway
The Ankara–Sivas high-speed railway (), is a long high-speed railway in Turkey and is the second longest high-speed railway in the country after the Ankara–Istanbul high-speed railway. Travel time between Ankara and Sivas was reduced to 2 hours and 50 minutes, from around 9 hours and 30 minutes with conventional trains. The railway will also serve as an extension of the Ankara-Istanbul HSR with a total journey time from Istanbul to Sivas at around 7 hours. The line was opened on April 26, 2023. History and the project In order to reduce travel time between Ankara and Sivas, Turkish State Railways, TCDD undertook a survey for a new high-speed railway line in 2004. Construction began in 2008 with some pauses in 2010 due to changes in the project. When completed, the Ankara-Sivas journey time is expected to be reduced to 2 hours and 50 minutes compared with a previous travel time of 12 hours. Testing on the line began in March 2020. The Ankara Metro () is the rapid transit system serving Ankara, the capital of Turkey. At present, Ankara's rapid transit system consists of three metro lines – the ''Ankaray (A1)'', the ''M1 - M2 - M3'' and the ''M4''. Lake Van Express
The Lake Van Express or Van Lake Express (), operated by TCDD Transport is an overnight train consisting of pullman, couchettes, sleeping and dining wagons, which runs twice a week on the Ankara-Tatvan route of over 1,300 km. Travelling the full route takes about 26 hours. The train previously ran between Haydarpaşa, Istanbul and Tatvan, but due to the construction of the Ankara–Istanbul high-speed railway, the service was shortened and the starting point of the journey became Ankara. The İzmir Blue Train () is one of the 3, still operating, "'' Blue Train''" services. The train made its first run on 17 May 1984. At first, the train was operating between Alsancak station in İzmir and Central Station in Ankara. But in 2006, due to construction works of IZBAN, the terminus in Izmir was transferred to Basmane station but remained there even after the IZBAN went into service. Başkentray
Başkentray (), formerly known as the Ankara suburban (), is the name of the long commuter rail line in Ankara, Turkey. It is operated by TCDD Taşımacılık on trackage owned by the Turkish State Railways. History The portion of the rail line from Ankara Station to Sincan was completed in 1892, and a few trains ran daily on it. It was not until TCDD took over the line that a few suburban trains were put into service. Original service was by a steam engine locomotive, pulling up to 3 cars. In 1972, the line was electrified, and the E14000 units were put into service. In 2010, the new E23000 sets replaced the old ones. On 11 July 2016, the line was closed for 18 months for complete rebuilding (stations and rail lines). Ankara Express
The Ankara Express () is a daily overnight intercity passenger train, operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, between Istanbul and Ankara, with major stops at İzmit and Eskişehir. The train makes the long journey in about 8 and-a-half hours. There are two iterations of the Ankara Express; the first iteration began service in 1975 and departed Haydarpaşa station in Istanbul. This service was discontinued in 2014, with the completion of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railway. Following the opening of the Marmaray commuter rail system in 2019, the Ankara Express was brought back, departing from Halkalı station. With this re-routing, the Ankara Express became the first non-high-speed intercity train service to use the Marmaray Tunnel under the Bosphorus.
