The Ataris are an American punk rock band from Anderson, Indiana. Formed in 1996, they released five studio albums between 1997 and 2007. Their best-selling album is ''So Long, Astoria'' (2003), which was certified gold. Their high-charting single is the cover song " The Boys of Summer" from ''So Long, Astoria''. The only constant member throughout their history has been singer/songwriter/guitarist Kristopher Roe. History Kung Fu Records (1996–2001) Formed on November 1, 1996, the band originally consisted of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kristopher Roe and guitarist Jasin Thomason. Using a 4-track, Roe wrote and recorded demos in his bedroom, using a drum machine while he searched for a full-time drummer. "The Boys of Summer" is a song released in 1984 by Eagles vocalist and drummer Don Henley, with lyrics written by Henley and music composed by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The lead single from Henley's album ''Building the Perfect Beast'', "The Boys of Summer" was released on October 26, 1984. It reached number five on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in the US, number one on the ''Billboard'' Top Rock Tracks chart, and number 12 in the UK Singles Chart. The music video won several awards. Blue Skies, Broken Hearts
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. It lies between violet and cyan on the spectrum of visible light. The eye perceives blue when observing light with a dominant wavelength between approximately 450 and 495 nanometres. ''Look Forward to Failure'' is an EP released on November 10, 1998 by The Ataris on Fat Wreck Chords. This was the first album released to feature fan favorite "San Dimas High School Football Rules", a song that would later appear on '' Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits''. The band also intended on putting the song "That Special Girl" on ''Blue Skies, Broken Hearts'' as well but it didn't make the cut. The song features Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 on backing vocals. The version of "My Hotel Year" that appears on this EP is the electric version and contains an extra verse at the end. The version that ended up on ''Blue Skies'' was acoustic and shortened. Michael Sean Davenport (born 13 September 1968) is an American musician. Davenport was bass guitarist for The Ataris, joining the band in 1997 prior to the album '' Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits'' in which Davenport co-wrote the song "In Spite of the World". He also played bass on the album '' End Is Forever'' and the EP ''Look Forward to Failure'' on Fat Wreck Chords. After numerous recordings, tours, and a major label release with The Ataris, '' So Long Astoria'' in which he co-wrote the song "The Hero Dies in this One" about his father Francis Davenport, who died in a car accident in Santa Barbara county when Davenport was just 19 years old. ''Anywhere but Here'' (stylized as ''...Anywhere but here'') is the first full release on Kung Fu Records by The Ataris. The album was released on April 29, 1997, and was characterized by a straightforward, upbeat, pop punk sound. The majority of the songs clock in at two minutes or less in length. On May 28, 2002, the album was re-released with an extra track ("Anderson"), a hidden track (an acoustic cover of Weezer's "Butterfly"), and some video footage. The track listing was also changed. Derrick Plourde
Derrick William Plourde (October 17, 1971 – March 30, 2005) was an American drummer, musician and artist. Born in Goleta, California, he was active from 1989 until his death in 2005. Although best known as a former member of Lagwagon, Plourde also played in several different bands like Bad Astronaut, Jaws, The Ataris, Mad Caddies and Rich Kids on LSD, among others. Besides drums, he played guitar and was described as a multi-instrumentalist. Aside from music, he was known as a skilled painter and gifted carpenter, and appreciated for his off-beat sense of humor. After a long battle with drug addiction, Plourde died by suicide on March 30, 2005. Career Plourde first caught the attention of the pop-punk underground in the Goleta/Santa Barbara scene in the early 1990s in the band Lagwagon (then called Section 8). Lagwagon is an American punk rock band originally from Goleta, California, just outside Santa Barbara. They formed in 1989, went on hiatus in 2000, and reunited several times over the years. Their name comes from the band's tour van, which can be seen on the back cover of their 1994 second album '' Trashed''. The band has 12 releases through Fat Wreck Chords: nine studio albums, one EP, one live album and a collection of B-sides, compilation tracks and demos. Lagwagon has never had, nor have they seemed to pursue, strong mainstream success, but they do have a devoted underground following in North America, Europe and Asia.
