Anguilla National Football Team
The Anguilla national football team is the national team of Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, and is controlled by the Anguilla Football Association. It is affiliated to the Caribbean Football Union of CONCACAF. Along with the teams from the Bahamas, Tonga, Bhutan, Eritrea, San Marino, and Somalia, they are consistently one of the lowest ranked teams in the world in the FIFA rankings. As of 14 December 2022, they rank 210th in the FIFA rankings, placing in the last two lowest ranked teams. The 2006 FIFA World Cup, also branded as Germany 2006, was the 18th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. It was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany, which had won the right to host the event in July 2000. Teams representing 198 national football associations from all six populated continents participated in the qualification process which began in September 2003. 2006 FIFA World Cup Qualification
The 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification competition was a series of tournaments organised by the six FIFA confederations. Each confederation – the AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean), CONMEBOL (South America), OFC (Oceania), and UEFA (Europe) – was allocated a certain number of the 32 places at the tournament. A total of 197 teams entered the qualification process for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Thomas Robinson Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. The largest stadium in the country, it is currently used mostly for soccer matches. The stadium currently has a capacity of 15,000 people, but has the ability to be expanded to hold 23,000 people. Ronald Webster Park is a sports venue in The Valley, Anguilla. It is currently used mostly for football matches, although most years the Leeward Islands cricket team play one of their matches in the Regional Four Day Competition on this ground. The 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification, ran from 2000 to 2001 in order to determine the three representatives at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Guyana withdrew before playing, leaving 34 nations in the race.
