Angola competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's eighth Olympic appearance at the Olympics, except the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles because of its participation in the Soviet boycott. Comité Olímpico Angolano sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games, surpassing the Beijing delegation by three athletes. A total of 35 athletes, 5 men and 30 women, competed in 7 sports. For the second time in its history, Angola was represented by more female than male athletes at an Olympic event. Women's basketball and women's handball were the only team-based sports in which Angola had its representation to these Olympic games. Esperança Gicaso
Esperança Gicaso (born 2 July 1992) is an Angolan para-athletics competitor. She served as Angola's flagbearer at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Gicaso competes in the T11 classification for blind athletes. Career highlights Gicaso began her athletic training in 2008. In 2011, she won the bronze medal in the 100 metres T11 event at the African Games in Maputo, Mozambique. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the 100 metres T11 and 200 metres T11, and the 400 metres T12 events. She did not advance to the finals for these events. At the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, Gicaso earned the bronze medal in the 200 metres T11. At the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, she won the bronze medal in the 100 metres T11. Octávio Merlo Manteca (born 29 December 1993), simply known as Octávio, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for Bulgarian club CSKA 1948 as a midfielder.
