The Diocese of Dar es Salaam is a diocese in the Anglican Church of Tanzania. The current bishop is the Right Reverend Jackson Sosthenes. Geography The diocese of Dar es Salaam is the wealthiest diocese in Tanzania. It covers an area of . It includes the Dar es Salaam and Coast Regions. At its heart is the city of Dar es Salaam, the cultural and economic capital of Tanzania (the political capital is Dodoma). On 11 July 2004 St Albans Cathedral Church became the Cathedral Church of the diocese. History Dar es Salaam was formerly within the Diocese of Zanzibar, which in 1963 was renamed the Diocese of Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. Valentino Mokiwa
Valentino Leonard Mokiwa (born 1954) is a former Tanzanian Anglican Archbishop. He was elected as the Primate and Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania in 2008 and occupied the position until 2013. Since being elected in April 2002, Mokiwa was the Bishop of the Diocese of Dar es Salaam, until his deposition in January 2017. Education Mokiwa studied at Virginia Theological Seminary, in Alexandria, United States, and became a principal at St. Mark's Theological College in Dar es Salaam. Career Mokiwa was Bishop of the Diocese of Dar es Salaam when he was elected the new Archbishop of Tanzania in a special session held during the General Synod of his church in Dodoma, on 28 February 2008. The chief justice of Tanzania is the highest post in the judicial system of Tanzania. The chief justice is appointed by the president and presides over the Court of Appeal of Tanzania. History After the First World War, the former German-governed colony Tanganyika was put under British authority in the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. A year later, a High Court was established by an Order in Council and the post of the chief justice was formed. Tanganyika became independent in 1961 and after a year was transformed into a republic. Augustino Steven Lawrence Ramadhani (28 December 1945 – 28 April 2020) was a Tanzanian jurist and Christian leader. He was Chief Justice of Tanzania from 2007 to 2010, and a Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights from 2010 to 2016. The Gogo/Gongwe (singular: mgogo, plural: Wagogo) are a Bantu ethnic and linguistic group based in the Dodoma Region of central Tanzania. Jacob Erasto Chimeledya (born Zoisa, Kongwa, 28 August 1957) is a Tanzanian Anglican bishop. He was elected archbishop and primate of the Anglican Church of Tanzania on 21 February 2013 in a vote against the incumbent, Valentino Mokiwa, in a controversial election. He was enthroned on 19 May 2013 and also remained bishop of the Diocese of Mpwapwa. He was in office until 21 May 2018.
