''Angi Vera '' is a 1978 Hungarian drama film directed by Pál Gábor and starring Vera Pap. It was selected as the Hungarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 52nd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.Margaret Herrick Library, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Vera Angi (Vera Pap) is an employee of a hospital in post-WWII Hungary. She complains to her superiors about the unsanitary conditions in the hospital. Pál Gábor
Pál Gábor (2 November 1932 – 21 October 1987) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. He directed 20 films between 1962 and 1987. In 1979, he was a member of the jury at the 29th Berlin International Film Festival. His most famous work was 1978's ''Angi Vera'', about a woman in a re-education camp in post-war Hungary. His films usually focused on the concerns of people in communist Hungary. Hungary has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since 1965. Only France has a longer unbroken streak entering the Foreign Oscar competition. The Best Foreign Language Film Award is handed out annually by the United States Academy Award for Best International Feature Film to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Hungary's submission is selected annually by a Selection Committee of esteemed film professionals. This is a list of submissions to the 52nd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 52nd Academy Awards, twenty-three films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The People's Republic of China submitted a film for the first time. Flóra Kádár (; 4 August 1928 – 3 January 2003) was a Hungarian actress. She was known for her roles of ''Mrs. Hackl'' in the film Sunshine, ''Redl's sister'' in the film Colonel Redl, and ''Erzsi, Jóska's wife'' in the film Adoption.
