Angell Street
Angell Street is a major one-way thoroughfare on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. It was named for Thomas Angell, an early settler in Providence. Route Angell Street runs roughly east to west across the East Side of Providence. The street begins in Wayland at the Henderson Bridge and extends westward down College Hill, where it bisects the Brown University campus. The street ends at Benefit Street, immediately east of the First Baptist Church in America, where its path becomes Thomas and later Steeple streets. East Side, Providence, Rhode Island
The East Side is a collection of neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city of Providence, Rhode Island. It officially comprises the neighborhoods of Blackstone, Hope (commonly known as Summit), Mount Hope, College Hill, Wayland, and Fox Point. The area is separated from East Providence, Rhode Island, to the east by the Seekonk River. To the west it is separated from the rest of Providence by the Providence River and Interstate 95. To the north, it borders Pawtucket, Rhode Island. To the south, it abuts Narragansett Bay, which is formed by the confluence of the Seekonk and Providence Rivers. Roger Williams founded Providence along College Hill. This area thus includes some of the oldest sections of the city. Central Congregational Church is a United Church of Christ congregation established in 1852 in Providence, Rhode Island. Wheeler School
Wheeler School is a private school located on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island, United States. The school serves students from the preschool level through twelfth-grade. History Early history In 1889, an art school for girls was established by an aspiring artist named Mary C. Wheeler. In 1900, adding an academic college preparatory curriculum to her art instruction, Mary Wheeler accepted ten female students as boarders and officially founded The Mary C. Wheeler School. A building on Brook Street was purchased, in 1898, to house girls enrolled in the preparatory program for her Cabot Street School. In 1910, Hope Building was constructed to provide living and dining facilities required by a growing student body and faculty. The Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts (known simply as the Granoff Center colloquially) is a visual and performing arts facility at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The building is home to the Brown Arts Institute. Designed by New York-based firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the building includes at 218-seat auditorium, as well as various other performance and exhibition spaces. The 38,000 square foot building is notable for its split facade: its right side is sunken half a floor below its left side, creating a disjointed effect. Corliss–Brackett House
The Corliss–Brackett House, also known as the Charles Brackett House, is an historic house in the College Hill neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island. The house is located at 45 Prospect Street at the southeast corner of Prospect and Angell Streets. According to Richard B. Harrington of the Rhode Island State Historical Preservation Commission, "There remain anywhere very few very formally and more monumentally treated durable masonry examples of the 'Italian (Tuscan) Villa style.'" Hope Street, Providence
Hope Street is a major two lane bidirectional street running about three miles north to south on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. The street serves as a main artery serving most of the East Side district and connects the East Side to Pawtucket at the north, where it continues as East Avenue. It intersects with other important streets on the East Side including Blackstone Boulevard, Waterman Street, Angell Street, Thayer Street, and Wickenden Street. Unlike many major city arteries, Hope Street is predominantly residential, and most of the local stores and offices are located on other streets that branch off.
