''Angelfish'' is the 1994 debut and only studio album released by Scottish alternative rock group Angelfish, fronted by Shirley Manson. The ''Angelfish'' album was born out of necessity when Goodbye Mr Mackenzie's record distributor MCA expressed interest in recording an album with Manson on lead vocals rather than furthering its commitment to the Mackenzies. The Mackenzies' record label boss Gary Kurfirst signed Manson as a solo artist, with the remaining Mackenzies performing as her backing band to circumvent the band's existing deal with MCA. Two releases promoted the album; the first an EP, '' Suffocate Me'' was released mid-1993, while the second, "Heartbreak to Hate", was released to radio at the time of the album's release. Angelfish was a short-lived early-1990s Scottish alternative rock group originating from Edinburgh, Scotland, formed as a side-project to Scottish group Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, after keyboardist and backing vocalist Shirley Manson was signed as a solo artist to circumvent the Mackenzies' existing record contract. Angelfish released a single self-titled studio album, '' Angelfish'', and two singles of which the first was an EP for minor college radio hit " Suffocate Me". Pterophyllum
''Pterophyllum'' is a small genus of freshwater fish from the family Cichlidae known to most aquarists as angelfish. All ''Pterophyllum'' species originate from the Amazon Basin, Orinoco Basin and various rivers in the Guiana Shield in tropical South America. The three species of ''Pterophyllum'' are unusually shaped for cichlids being greatly laterally compressed, with round bodies and elongated triangular dorsal and anal fins. This body shape allows them to hide among roots and plants, often on a vertical surface. Naturally occurring angelfish are frequently striped transversely, colouration which provides additional camouflage. Angelfish are ambush predators and prey on small fish and macroinvertebrates. Pomacanthidae
Marine angelfish are perciform fish of the family Pomacanthidae. They are found on shallow reefs in the tropical Atlantic, Indian, and mostly western Pacific Oceans. The family contains seven genera and about 86 species. They should not be confused with the freshwater angelfish, tropical cichlids of the Amazon Basin. Description With their bright colours and deep, laterally compressed bodies, marine angelfishes are some of the more conspicuous residents of the reef. They most closely resemble the butterflyfishes, a related family of similarly showy reef fish. Marine angelfish are distinguished from butterflyfish by the presence of strong preopercle spines (part of the gill covers) in the former. Angelfish Charity
Angelfish is a UK charity that seeks to help disabled and deprived children in Cambodia by physical therapy. Angelfish uses a swimming programme to improve children's mobility and confidence. This is important in Cambodia which has the highest percentage of amputees in the world. Established in 2006, the charity is run by volunteers who co-ordinate the project, organize fundraising events and seek out business sponsorship. Each year, Angelfish aims to take Cambodian children to a water park where they will be supervised in the pool while exercising, receive a free hot lunch, and play games, while also having the opportunity to practice English. One of the major benefits of water therapy is freedom of movement without the usual disability aids that the children need. Volunteers from the UK and local Cambodians will be involved in the project. Local instructors will be trained so that the project becomes more self-sufficient. Atlantic Pomfret
The Atlantic pomfret (''Brama brama''), also known as Ray's bream, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a pomfret of the family Bramidae. It is found in the Atlantic, Indian, and South Pacific Oceans, at depths down to . Its length is between . In South Africa, where it is a common bycatch of the hake fishery, it is generally known and sold as "angelfish", although it is not a true marine angelfish. The Atlantic pomfret has very significant migration patterns which greatly depend on the temperature of intermediate waters, but are also affected by secondary reactions from density dependence and the climatic conditions of the surface. Although the species was first recorded in Irish waters in 1843, it was still regarded as scarce up until the late 1950s, but between the 1960s and 1970s large numbers were recorded. The angelsharks are a group of sharks in the genus ''Squatina'' of the family Squatinidae. They commonly inhabit sandy seabeds close to in depth. Many species are now classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Once common over large areas of the Northeast Atlantic from Norway, Sweden, Morocco, and the Canary Islands, to the Mediterranean and Black Seas, there is now significant fishing pressure which has resulted in significant population decline. Cave Angelfish
The waterfall climbing cave fish (''Cryptotora thamicola''), also known as the cave angel fish, is a species of troglobitic hillstream loach endemic to Thailand. It reaches a length of SL. This fish is known for its fins, which can grapple onto terrain, and its ability to climb. This fish is the only known member of its genus. The species has been recorded from eight subterranean sites within a large karst system (Pang Mapha karst formation) in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand. The species has an extent of occurrence of nearly 200 km2, but an area of occupancy of 6 km2; the connectivity of this karst systems is unknown, some caves are definitely connected.
