Angeles Negros De Puebla
The Angeles de Puebla, or Angeles Negros de Puebla ("Angels of Puebla" or "Black Angels of Puebla"), was a baseball club which were very successful in their short time in the Mexican League. The Pericos de Puebla had left the Liga in 1969, and when a new team took their place in 1972, they used a new name. After winning a division title in 1975, the team finished with the best record in the league in both 1976 and 1977, but made a first-round exit from the playoffs all three years. In 1979 they won the Liga pennant and in 1980 had the best record in the league when it was shut down by a strike in mid-season. The Angeles were one of the teams that did not take part in the restarted season, and did not return to the league in 1981. In 1985, the Angeles returned to the Mexican League, but after what the owner considered a bad season, he renamed the team as the Angeles Negros ("Black Angels"). Labor strife and more moving 1972 was tainted by a players' strike over pension and salary arbitration. The strike erased the first week and a half of the season, and the Leagues decided to just excise the lost portion of the season with no makeups. As a result, an uneven number of games were cancelled for each team; some as few as six, some as many as nine. The lack of makeups of those games, even when they affected playoffs, led to the Boston Red Sox losing the American League East by half a game to the Detroit Tigers. 1972 marked the first year for the Texas Rangers, who had moved to Arlington from Washington, D.C. Jorge Calvo (baseball)
Jorge Calvo (March 4, 1938 – January 28, 2009) was a Mexican baseball player. Jorge played minor league baseball for several seasons, spending parts of three seasons in the Mexican League, the highest level of professional baseball in Mexico. He also managed in the Mexican League for eight years. He was born in Ocotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. An outfielder, Calvo's playing career spanned 1960 to 1967. His statistical record is incomplete. Max Oliveras Gutiérrez ako(born September 10, 1946 in Santurce, Puerto Rico) is a former Minor League Baseball player who later managed in the minors for several teams. He joined the Alpha chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha fraternity in 1964. Oliveras played seven seasons in the minor leagues. He was also a coach in the Major Leagues for the California Angels and the Chicago Cubs. In May , Oliveras took over as skipper of the independent Miami Marlins after Fred Hatfield was fired. Jorge Fitch (30 March 1934 – 15 April 2021) was a Mexican professional baseball player and manager. As a shortstop, he played for the Tigres del México, Pericos de Puebla, Broncos/Bravos de Reynosa, and Estibadores de Tampico of the Mexican League. Fitch accumulated 1,676 hits in 1,670 games for a .272 lifetime batting average. During the winter, he played 10 seasons with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Mayos de Navojoa and Yaquis de Obregón of the Mexican Pacific League.
