Angamaly Jacobite Orthodox Diocese
Angamali Diocese is the largest of the 12 dioceses of Syrian Orthodox Church in Kerala. Angamali Diocese was formed in the historic synod of Mulanthuruthy in 1876 and has been the major center of Jacobites through the ages. Metropolitan of the Diocese is HB Baselios Thomas I Catholicose. Regions Angamali Diocese is divided into five regions for administrative purposes under different bishops. Sthathicon Of Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius
A ''sthathicon'' (also transliterated ''sthathikon'') or ''susthathikon'' is an ecclesial document of official authorization and agreement, typically certifying the consecration of bishops in Syriac Christianity. Description A ''sthathicon'' serves as an official document in some West Syriac Rite Christian denominations, verifying whether an individual is authorized clergyman within that church. According to tradition, the document was used in the time of Mar Mari in Early Christianity to identify Saint Thomas Christian clergy in India who had officially been recognized by Antioch's clergy. These documents were used by Malankara Church officials in the 19th century to identify Oriental Protestants who had been educated by Anglican missionaries and declare their Holy Orders invalid. Baselios Thomas I
Baselios Thomas I (born 22 July 1929) is a Syriac Orthodox Catholicos of India (Maphrian) and head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, the Syriac Orthodox Church in India. He was enthroned on 26 July 2002 by Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East in a ceremony held in Damascus, Syria. Childhood He was born in the Cheruvillil family of Vadayambadi in Puthencruz to Mathai and Kunjamma on 22 July 1929. Early part of the life of Mor Baselios Thomas I was of sufferings. Though he belonged to an aristocratic family, by the time he was born the family had seen bad days. As a child he had frequent bouts of illness which affected his education. Mor Severios Abraham
Mor Severios Abraham is a Syriac Orthodox bishop. , he is the Metropolitan of Angamali region of the Angamali Diocese and Abbott of Mor Gabriel Dayro (Monastery). He is the most senior metropolitan in the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. Early years Abraham Alukkal was born as member of the Alukkal family in Peechanikkad, Ankamali on 12 July 1941. In 1965 he was ordained deacon by Mor Gregorios Geevarghese Vayaliparambil of Ankamali. In the same year he was ordained by Mor Gregorios as ' Kasshisso'. Education He graduated from Community College, Chicago and completed his theological studies from Russian Leningrad Theological Academy and Theological College at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He obtained his Th.D. degree from Pacific Western University (California). Gregorios Abdal Jaleel
Mor Gregorios Abdal Jaleel Bawa (died 27 April 1681) was the Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Jerusalem from 1664 until his death in 1681. He is chiefly remembered for his 1665 mission to India, by which he established ties between the Malankara Church and the Syriac Orthodox church of Antioch. He is venerated as a saint by his church. Abdal Jaleel was born in Mosul, Iraq. In 1653 he was ordained metropolitan bishop for the Ameed (Diyarbakir) diocese in Turkey by the Patriarch Ignatius She'mun. In 1664, he was elevated as the Metropolitan of Jerusalem with the title Gregorios. He traveled to India in 1665 to the ordination of Thoma I, archdeacon of the Malankara Nasrani community. He was the delegate of the Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church to Kerala Syrian Christians. He died in India in 1681, and his remains are interred in the St. Thomas Church at North Paravur. Mathews Mor Aphrem (James Chitteth; born 5 August 1968) is a Syriac Orthodox bishop and the Metropolitan of the Perumbavoor region of the Angamali diocese. Early life James Chitteth was born to Skaria and Sossamma Chitteth on 5 August 1968 in Arincherumala, Wayanad District. Education Chitteth had his schooling at the Government Higher Secondary School in Panamaram, Wayanad District. His Bachelor of Economics degree was from the University of Calicut. Soon after his graduation, Chitteth joined Malecuriz Dayro for Theology Education and earned a Diploma in Theology from Malankara Syrian Orthodox Seminary, Vettikkal, Mulanthuruthy. MGJSM
Mor Gregorios Jacobite Students' Movement (MGJSM) is the student wing of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church. It is a Christian student organization in India. The Headquarter of MGJSM is located at Malankara Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary of Ernakulam District in Kerala. History Founded in 1907 as "Syrian Students Conference", it is the first Student Christian Movement in India. It conducted annual conferences till 1912 on a regular basis. After the church split in 1912, the annual conferences were abandoned. Later on 6 May 1922, a special convention of the Students of the Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church was convened at the Cheruthottukunnel St. George Church of Angamaly diocese (in Pallikkara Region), under the initiative of St Paulose Mor Athanasius of Aluva (Valiya Thirumeni). Aluva
Aluva (; also known by its former name Alwaye) is a town in the Ernakulam District in Kerala, India. It is a part of the Kochi metropolitan area and is situated around from the city center on the banks of Periyar River. Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius
Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius was the First Metropolitan of Angamaly Diocese of Malankara Church ordained for the diocese of Kottayam after its formation in 1876 as per the decision of the historic Mulanthuruthy Synod. From 1891 onwards he assumed the additional responsibility of Angamaly. It was during the time of Kadavil Thirumeni the construction of the St. Mary's Church at Thrikkunathu, Aluva was completed. One of the last wishes of the Metropolitan was to start a seminary at Aluva for teaching Syriac and English for clergy as well as for the laity. With this in mind he donated all his remaining properties and assets to the seminary, which he inherited from his family. On Saturday, 2 November 1907, Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius died at the age of 74. His mortal remains were interred in the northern side of the Madbho. Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysious II
Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysious II (Mar Dionysious V) (12 November 1833 – 11 July 1909) was the Malankara Metropolitan of the Malankara Church, was born into the family of Pulikkottil (Kunnamkulam). He was the 14th Malankara Metropolitan. Early life Pulikkottil is a family which moved from Arthat and settled in Kunnamkulam. Tharu Kurien, a member of this family was the nephew of Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysious I. Joseph (Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysious II) was born as the son of Tharu Kurien and Thandamma, daughter of Paingamukku Kuthooru Geevarghese Kathanaar, on 12 November 1833. In addition to theology and Syriac he learned Sanskrit and Hindustani at Kunnamkulam.
