Andy Steensma
Andrew Steensma (born September 29, 1942) is a Minnesota politician, a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota, and the former mayor of the city of Luverne, Minnesota, Luverne. Steensma was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1986 when he unseated longtime incumbent Wendell Erickson in the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's "firestorm" that swept through the region, giving Democrats unprecedented control of southwestern Minnesota for the next several election cycles. He represented the old District 27B and, later, District 21B, which included all or portions of Lincoln County, Minnesota, Lincoln, Lyon County, Minnesota, Lyon, Murray County, Minnesota, Murray, Nobles County, Minnesota, Nobles, Pipestone County, Minnesota, Pipestone and Rock County, Minnesota, Rock counties. Wendell Erickson
Wendell Oliver Erickson (June 17, 1925 – August 8, 2018) was an American politician who was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from southwestern Minnesota. Service in the Minnesota House First elected in 1964, Erickson was re-elected every two years until 1986. A Republican, he represented the old Districts 19B and 26B and, later, 27B, which included all or portions of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock counties, changing somewhat through redistricting in 1970 and 1980. While in the legislature, Erickson earned a reputation as a leader on issues relevant to education and agriculture. He allied with the Conservative Caucus at a time when the legislature was still officially nonpartisan, and later identified as a Republican when party affiliation became required of candidates. Nobles County, Minnesota
Nobles County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,290. Its county seat is Worthington. Nobles County comprises the Worthington, MN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Nobles County was first occupied by the Sisseton Sioux. The first white man to set foot on the land was Joseph Nicollet who came to map out the area in 1842. Nicollet named Lake Okabena (there were two Lake Okabenas at the time), Lake Ocheda, East and West Graham Lake and the Kanaranzi Creek. The first settlement was near Graham Lakes in 1846. Pipestone County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,424. Its county seat is Pipestone. History The county was formed on May 23, 1857, by act of the territorial legislature, but was not organized at that time. The area was first designated ''Rock County'' while the name ''Pipestone County'' was attached to neighboring Rock County. An act of the Minnesota state legislature on February 20, 1862, swapped the designations, attaching the present names to the present counties, due to the pipestone quarry in this county.
