Andy McCallin
Andy McCallin was a dual player of Gaelic games (hurling and Gaelic football, football) who played for the Antrim GAA, Antrim and Limerick GAA, Limerick county teams. Early career Belfast-born, McCallin is the only Antrim county football team, Antrim footballer who has received an GAA All Stars Awards, All Star Award for his county, which he received in the inaugural year, 1971. Despite this accolade, he was also well known as an excellent Hurling, hurler for Antrim. His fame began in 1969 when he played a pivotal role in collapsing Roscommon GAA, Roscommon in the All-Ireland Under 21 Football final. Antrim won with a scoreline of 1–8 to 0–10 with the victory over Roscommon, bringing Antrim its first national football title. Connacht GAA (Irish: Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Chonnacht) or formally the Connacht Provincial Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association is the governing body for Gaelic games that are played in the province of Connacht, Ireland. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. Cushendall (), formerly known as Newtownglens, is a coastal village and townland (of 153 acres) in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is located in the historic barony of Glenarm Lower and the civil parish of Layd, and is part of Causeway Coast and Glens district. The Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Kilkenny GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Cill Chainnigh) is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kilkenny. The county board has its head office and main grounds at Nowlan Park and is also responsible for Kilkenny county teams in all codes at all levels.
