Andy (given Name)
Andy, also spelled Andi, Andie or Andee, is predominantly a diminutive version of the male given name Andrew, and variants of it such as Andreas and Andrei. The form of the variation is based on the Scottish "-ie" diminutive ending. ''Andrew'' is derived from the Greek name ''Andreas'', meaning "manlike" or "brave". Andy is also occasionally used as a diminutive for the female given name Andrea in the English, German, Scandinavian and Spanish feminine version of the name Andrew (although Andrea is a masculine name in Italian). Although it is uncommon, some people named Alexander go by Andy. It is also occasionally spelled "Andie", "Andi", or "Andee" (these more often as a feminine name, but not exclusively). As a masculine name, it can also be a variant of Anthony (especially Andon, Andoni, Andonis, Andonios, Andoniaina & Andony). Andy can also be a feminine given name as an alternate form of Andrea. The Indian names Anand and Anindya are also sometimes shortened to Andy. ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Horace Andy
Horace Andy (born Horace Hinds, 19 February 1951) is a Jamaican roots reggae songwriter and singer, known for his distinctive vocals and hit songs such as "Government Land", as well as "Angel", "Spying Glass" and "Five Man Army" with English trip hop duo Massive Attack. He is also famous for a cover version of "Ain't No Sunshine". Andy is often described as one of the most respected and influential singers in Jamaica. Biography Early days Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Hinds recorded his first single, "This is a Black Man's Country," in 1967 for producer Phil Pratt. "This is a Black Man's Country" failed to make an impact, and it wouldn't be until 1970 that he achieved a breakthrough. After unsuccessfully auditioning at Coxsone Dodd's Studio One as a duo along with Frank Melody, he successfully auditioned on his own a few days later. Dodd decided Hinds should record as Horace Andy, partly to capitalise on the popularity of Bob Andy, and partly to avoid comparisons with his cousin, ... Andy (1976 Album)
''Andy'' is the thirty-sixth studio album by American pop singer Andy Williams, released in the fall of 1976 by Columbia Records. Williams is not as focused on covering pop hits and standards on this album and instead relies mainly on original or lesser-known songs. In the liner notes for the album's 2002 CD release, writer Richard M. Erickson explains that the album "was recorded at six different studios to accommodate Andy's touring schedule. One recording session was at a portable studio set up at a Marriott hotel." ''Andy'' was released on compact disc for the first time by Collectables Records in 2002 with eight bonus tracks that were taken from four of Williams's Columbia singles released between 1974 and 1979. Collectables included this CD in a box set entitled ''Classic Album Collection, Vol. 2'', which contains 15 of his studio albums and two compilations and was released on November 29, 2002. Andy (film)
''Andy'' is a 1965 drama film written, produced, and directed by Richard C. Sarafian and starring Norman Alden. It was Sarafians first directing credit for a feature film. Plot Cast Production The film was a "quasi-autobiographical piece," derived from Sarafian's memories of his early days in New York City. Sarafian had been working on the screenplay for years with his wife Joan Altman. It was financed for $300,000 by Universal Pictures under its short-lived "New Horizons" program for up-and-coming filmmakers. Sarafian's brother-in-law Robert Altman wanted the rights to the film, which he planned to direct with Dan Blocker in the lead role. Sarafian refused, which led to a permanent split between the two men. Andy (goose)
Andy (1987 – October 19, 1991) was a goose born without feet. He was well known for wearing sneakers to help him stand and walk. Andy was killed in 1991 by an unknown perpetrator. Background The grey goose was born in 1987 without feet and lived on a farm in Harvard, Nebraska. When Andy was two years old, Gene Fleming from nearby Hastings became aware of the plight of the bird. Fleming was an inventor and member of a local charity for disabled children, and he thought he would be able to help. Fleming took care of Andy and his mate, Polly, and moved them to his farm in Hastings. Fleming's granddaughter, Jessica, named her after a girl she got into a fight with at junior high. Initial failed attempts at providing Andy with more mobility included a skateboard-like prosthesis. Fleming then fitted Andy with specially adapted baby-sized shoes and he successfully taught the bird to walk with them. Subsequently, Andy caught the attention of the media and Nike, which offered a lifetime ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
