Andy Devine (actor)
Peter Devine (stage name Andy Devine, 28 February 1942 – 27 January 2022) was a British actor primarily on television, whose best known role was Shadrach Dingle on one of ITV (TV network), ITV's long-running soap operas, ''Emmerdale''. He played Shadrach on and off starting in 2000 and made his final appearance in July 2010. His credits have occasionally been confused with those of the American actor Andy Devine (1905–1977). Devine served in the Royal Navy for eight years after joining at aged 17 in 1959. He was also a classical actor before going into the soaps. Life and career Devine began his acting career in 1963. He mainly had minor roles, such as an uncredited Draconian Guard in several episodes of the ''Doctor Who'' story ''Frontier in Space''. Andrew Vabre Devine (October 7, 1905 – February 18, 1977) was an American character actor known for his distinctive raspy, crackly voice and roles in Western films, including his role as Cookie, the sidekick of Roy Rogers in 10 feature films. He also appeared alongside John Wayne in films such as ''Stagecoach'' (1939), '' The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'', and '' How the West Was Won'' (both 1962). He is also remembered as Jingles on the TV series '' The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok'' from 1951 to 1958, as Danny McGuire in '' A Star Is Born'' (1937), and as the voice of Friar Tuck in the Disney Animation Studio film ''Robin Hood'' (1973). ''Out of the Blue'' is a British television crime drama series, set and filmed in Sheffield, and broadcast on BBC One between 23 May 1995, and 9 September 1996. A total of twelve episodes were broadcast across two series. John Hannah and David Morrissey starred as the main protagonists in each respective series. The series was controversial owing to its cynical depiction of doctors, nurses, and the National Health Service (NHS), although it has often topped polls of the UK medical profession as the most realistic medical drama of all time. The series was created by Jed Mercurio (writing under the pseudonym John MacUre), a former junior doctor who had worked at a hospital in Wolverhampton.
