Andy DePaul
Andy "Kid" DePaul (born ''Andrew A. DiPaolo''; November 22, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – September 6, 2014) was a noted amateur and professional boxer and referee. He has been the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commissioner for Western Pennsylvania since 1990. During his amateur boxing career, Andy won 82 of 92 amateur fights. In 1946 he was the 135 pound Dapper Dan Golden Gloves champion, and the 135 pound AAU AMA Champion. In 1947 he was the 135 pound and 147 pound Pittsburgh Golden Gloves champion and the 135 pound Eastern Golden Gloves champion, which was held in Madison Square Garden. He was also an AAU finalist in Boston. After he turned professional, he compiled a career record of 27 wins, 8 losses, 3 draws. In 1950 he was the ninth-ranked middleweight in the world. After his professional boxing career ended, DePaul served as a referee for boxing and professional wrestling shows around the Pittsburgh area. Studio Wrestling
''Studio Wrestling'' was a live professional wrestling show broadcast from WIIC-TV Channel 11 in Pittsburgh every Saturday evening. In 1959, WIIC began broadcasting professional wrestling from their studio located in Fineview. The show was hosted by Bill Cardille through most of its run, although he was not the original host. The primary directors were Chuck Moyer and Jack Bleriot. Popularity At one time, this show was considered one of the top wrestling shows in the United States. Even though the show started on Saturdays at 6 p.m., the lines started to form around the TV station at noon. The show was so popular that it revived the dying Pittsburgh wrestling market. Promoter Joseph "Toots" Mondt went from promoting shows at a tiny North Side venue called "The Islam Grotto" to packing in tens of thousands of fans to outdoor shows at Forbes Field. Acrisure Stadium is a football stadium located in the North Shore neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. National Italian American Sports Hall Of Fame
The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit institution honoring exceptional U.S. athletes of Italian descent. In 1977 George Randazzo created the Italian American Boxing Hall of Fame. This was as a means for raising money for local Catholic youth programs. After a successful year and dinner honoring 23 former Italian American boxing champions, Randazzo created the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. The original location was in Elmwood Park, Illinois. The first induction ceremony honored Lou Ambers, Eddie Arcaro, Charley Trippi, Gino Marchetti, Dom DiMaggio, Joe DiMaggio, and Vince Lombardi. Professional wrestling is a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches. The mock combat is performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing, and the dramatic aspects of pro wrestling may be performed both in the ring or—as in televised wrestling shows—in backstage areas of the venue, in similar form to reality television.
