Andrés Herzog
Andrés Gustavo Herzog Sánchez (born 21 January 1974) is a Spanish lawyer and politician who is the spokesperson of the centrist party Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD). Background Herzog was born in San Sebastián, Basque Country, and is the son of Carlos Herzog, a fur merchant of Polish-Jewish descent. His household observed neither Basque nor Jewish traditions. He graduated in Law from the University of Navarre, and trialled for representing Spain at Judo at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Career Herzog worked for the law firm Garrigues. Upon reading their initial manifesto in 2007, he joined UPyD. In July 2015, he was voted as the party's new spokesperson after the resignation of Rosa Díez. He refused an electoral pact with fellow centrists Citizens. Personal life Herzog is married to an Argentine woman. Union, Progress And Democracy
Union, Progress and Democracy ( es, link=no, Unión, Progreso y Democracia , UPyD ) was a Spanish political party founded in September 2007 and dissolved in December 2020. It was a social-liberal party that rejected any form of nationalism, especially the separatist Basque and Catalan movements. The party was deeply pro-European and wanted the European Union to adopt a federal system without overlap between the European, national and regional governments. It also wanted to replace the State of Autonomies with a much more centralist, albeit still politically decentralized, unitary system as well as substituting a more proportional election law for the current one. UPyD first stood for election in the 9 March 2008 general election. It received 303,246 votes, or 1.2 percent of the national total, and one seat in the Congress of Deputies
