Andrey Viktorovoich Zamkovoy ( rus, Андрей Викторович Замковой, , ɐnˈdrʲeɪ̯ zəmkɐˈvoɪ̯; born 4 July 1987) is a Russian amateur boxer, best known for winning gold at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Career At the 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships, southpaw Zamkovoy upset two-time world champion Serik Sapiyev in the semifinal but was surprised himself in the final by German Jack Culcay-Keth ( 2009 results). Svobodny, Amur Oblast
Svobodny (russian: Свобо́дный) is a town in Amur Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Zeya River, north of Blagoveshchensk, the administrative center of the oblast. Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. This type of competition prizes point-scoring blows, based on number of clean punches landed, rather than physical power. Also, this short format allows tournaments to feature several bouts over several days, unlike professional boxing, where fighters rest several months between bouts. Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Boxing At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The boxing tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 21 August 2016 at the Pavilion 6 of Riocentro. However, boxing at the games was overshadowed with controversy after there were doubts raised that results in certain bouts had been manipulated. These concerns were upheld in a report published in 2021. Competition format On March 23, 2013, the Amateur International Boxing Association instituted significant changes to the format. The World Series of Boxing, AIBA's pro team league which started in 2010, already enabled team members to retain 2012 Olympic eligibility. The newer AIBA Pro Boxing Tournament, consisting of pros who sign 5 year contracts with AIBA and compete on pro cards leading up to the tournament, also provides a pathway for new pros to retain their Olympic eligibility and retain ties with national committees. Errol Spence
Errol Spence Jr. (born March 3, 1990) is an American professional boxer. He is currently a unified welterweight world champion, having held the IBF title since May 2017, the WBC title since September 2019, and the WBA (Super) since April 2022. As an amateur in the welterweight division, he won three consecutive United States national championships and represented the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2015, Spence was named Prospect of the Year by ESPN. Adam Nolan
Adam Nolan (born 11 March 1987) is an Irish retired boxer from Enniscorthy, County Wexford who qualified for the 2012 Olympics. Boxing career Adam is the second Wexford-born boxer to qualify for the Olympics, the first being his coach on the Irish team, Billy Walsh. He was the fifth Irish boxer to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. He is a club mate at Bray Boxing Club with five-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Taylor. Bray was the only boxing club in the world who qualified two boxers to London 2012, and is the only boxing club in history to have a male and a female boxer feature in the Olympic games. Nolan finished in the top two at welterweight at the 2012 European Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament which gained him qualification to the Olympics.
