Andrey Selivanov (chess Player)
Andrey Vladimirovich Selivanov (russian: Андрей Владимирович Селиванов; born July 9, 1967) is a Soviet and Russian politician and chess problemist (also known also as a chess composer). He was Russian State Duma deputy from 1993–2003. Biography After secondary school and a professional technical school graduation, Selivanov worked in Komsomol local office (1987–1990). From 1990 to 1992, he was the newspaper's ''Заря Урала'' ("Ural Dawn") social department head. In 1990, Selivanov was elected as member of the Sverdlovsk region of Krasnoturinsk City Council. In this office, he worked until 1993, when he was elected as deputy of the Russian State Duma. In 1995 and 1999, Selivanov was re-elected by the Russian State Duma. In 1995 he graduated from the Ural State Law University. In 1994, Selivanov was elected as Vice President of the Russian Chess Federation. Karpinsk
Karpinsk (russian: Карпи́нск) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Turya River ( Ob's basin), north of Yekaterinburg, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: The town is named for mineralogist and geologist Alexander Karpinsky. History The settlement of Bogoslovsk () was founded in either 1759 or in 1769. It remained one of the largest copper production centers in the Urals until 1917. Coal deposits started to be mined in 1911. In 1941, the settlement of Bogoslovsky () merged with the nearby settlement of Ugolny () to form the town of Karpinsk. From 1945 to 1949, there existed close to Karpinsk a labor camp for Russo-Germans and German civilians, who for the most part were forcibly displaced from East Prussia and Pomerania to be used as forced labor. Chess Study
In the game of chess, an endgame study, or just study, is a composed position—that is, one that has been made up rather than played in an actual game—presented as a sort of puzzle, in which the aim of the solver is to find the essentially unique way for one side (usually White) to win or draw, as stipulated, against any moves the other side plays. If the study does not end in a mate or stalemate, it should be obvious that the game is either won or drawn, and White can have a selection of many different moves. There is no limit to the number of moves which are allowed to achieve the win; this distinguishes studies from the genre of direct mate problems (e.g. "mate in 2").
