Andrey Balanov
Andrey Vladimirovich Balanov (russian: Андрей Владимирович Баланов) (born April 27, 1976 in Podolsk) is a former Russian boxer best known for winning the 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships at welterweight, being part of the Russian 2005 team at the Boxing World Cup and competing at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Career In 2005 he was part of the Russian team that won the 2005 Boxing World Cup. At the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships he exited early against eventual Cuban winner Erislandi Lara. At the Euros 2006 he beat Oleksandr Stretskyy from Ukraine in the semifinals and Bulgarian Spas Genov in the final 30:12. At the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships he again beat Olexandr Stretskiy but was upset by Thai Non Boonjumnong. Non Boonjumnong ( th, นน บุญจำนงค์; , born June 12, 1982 as Manon Boonjumnong) is a Thai amateur boxer who won silver at welterweight at the World Championships 2007. In the older tournaments he is listed as "Manon". Career Non, who is the younger brother of Olympic gold medalist Manus Boonjumnong, won a bronze medal at the 2002 Asian Games, when he lost his semifinal to eventual winner Kim Jung-Joo. In 2005 he competed for Thailand at the Boxing World Cup in Moscow, Russia, losing both his matches in the preliminary round. Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. Demetrius Cesar Andrade ( ; born February 26, 1988) is an American professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO light middleweight title between 2013-2015, the WBA (Regular) title in 2017, and the WBO middleweight title from 2018 to 2022. As an amateur he won the U.S. national championships and Golden Gloves twice each, a gold medal at the 2007 World Championships, and represented the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics; all in the welterweight division. Boxing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Welterweight
The welterweight competition was the fifth-highest weight class featured in amateur boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and was held at the Workers Indoor Arena. Welterweights were limited to a maximum of 69 kilograms in body mass. Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score. The winner of the bout was the boxer who scored the most valid punches by the end of the bout.
