Professor Andrew William John Thomson, OBE, FBAM (26 January 1936 – 26 December 2014) was a British academic and historian who specialized in management education and industrial relations. Early life and education Thomson was born in Stockton, and educated at St. Bees School in Cumberland. After his national service in the Army, he obtained a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1959 from St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, and then a MS in Industrial Relations in 1961 from Cornell University, where he obtained a MS in Industrial Relations in 1961. He then returned to Britain to work as a brand manager for Lever Brothers between 1961 and 1965. Andrew "Iceberg" Thomson, (born 7 April 1974), is a retired South African kickboxer. Biography and career Thompson was born in East London, South Africa in 1974. Although he played several sports when he was a young boy, he was most interested in body building and martial arts. He studied karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, kung fu, and boxing. After graduation he was conscripted into the South African army, where he qualified as a parachutist and a sanitation engineer. After he moved from East London to Cape Town, he joined Steve's Gym, and he participated in K-1 from 1998 to 2003. He won several K-1 events. He competed in Enfusion Kickboxing Tournament '13 where he defeated Mate Paulovics on 12 September 2013 in tournament's 1st round. Andrew Thomson is a New Zealand born UN doctor and co-author of the international best seller "Emergency Sex and Other Desperate Measures" Graduating top of his year from Auckland School of Medicine in 1983, Thomson has dedicated his life to humanitarian aid. He has worked as a medical officer in the UN in New York, Cambodia and Haiti. He has also worked with the international criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda. His main work was in exhuming mass graves to gather forensic evidence to prosecute government officials. Thomson's interest in humanitarian work came about when he was a medical student at the University of Auckland where he befriended Vary a Cambodian student who was one of the 60 doctors who survived the notorious killing fields. Andrew Thomson FRSE (1814–1901) was a Scottish minister and (from 1847) of the United Presbyterian Church. He was a noted biographer and lecturer, well known for his books on the lives of pre-eminent ministers, and for his book on his travels in the Holy Land and noted for his preface to the Scottish poet, Robert Pollok's "Tales of the Covenanters". Andrew Thomson (27 August 1865 – 2 June 1936) was a Scottish footballer who played as a full-back. He earned two caps for Scotland in 1886 and 1889. Club career During his career, Thomson played for Levern, Arthurlie and Third Lanark. He won the Scottish Cup with Third Lanark in 1889. International career Thomson made his first appearance for Scotland on 20 March 1886, in a 7–2 away win against Ireland. He earned his second and final cap three years later, serving as team captain in a scoreless draw in Wrexham against Wales on 15 April 1889. Andrew Mitchell Thomson (1779–1831) was a minister of the Church of Scotland, known as an evangelical activist and political reformer. Life The second son of the Rev. John Thomson, D.D., by his first wife, Helen Forrest, he was born in the manse at Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, where his father was minister, on 11 July 1779. Educated at the parish school of Markinch, Fife after his father had moved there, and at Edinburgh University which he left in 1800, he was licensed to preach by the presbytery of Kelso; but before receiving a clerical charge he was schoolmaster at Markinch. In 1802 he was appointed parish minister at Sprouston, Roxburghshire. In 1808 he was transferred to the East Church, Perth; in 1810 to New Greyfriars, Edinburgh; and in 1814, on the opening of the church, moved within the city to St George's Church.
