Andrew Taylor (sailor)
Andrew Taylor (born 22 July 1963) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in multiple Whitbread Round the World Races and America's Cups. Taylor sailed the 1985–86 Whitbread Round the World Race on '' Lion New Zealand'' before joining New Zealand Challenge. He sailed on ''KZ 7'' at the 1987 Louis Vuitton Cup and on '' KZ 1'' during the 1988 America's Cup. Taylor then sailed in the 1989–90 Whitbread Round the World Race on '' Fisher & Paykel NZ''. He re-joined New Zealand Challenge for the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup. Taylor then joined Team New Zealand and was a grinder on board ''NZL 32'' when they won the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup and 1995 America's Cup. He then sailed in Team New Zealand's successful defence of the 2000 America's Cup. He was the only person to sail in every New Zealand America's Cup campaign to this point. Sailor (sport)
The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Most competitions are held within defined classes or ratings that either entail one type of sailing craft to ensure a contest primarily of skill or rating the sailing craft to create classifications or handicaps. On water, a sailing competition among multiple vessels is a regatta, which usually consists of multiple individual races, where the boat crew that performs best in over the series of races is the overall winner. 2000 America's Cup
The 30th America's Cup was won by Team New Zealand, who swept the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup winner Prada Challenge in all five races. It was the first America's Cup without an American challenger or defender. The 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup held in Valencia, Spain, from April 16 to June 6 was the event used to select the challenger for the 2007 America's Cup.
