Andrew Sherwood (politician)
Andrew Sherwood (born November 10, 1980) is a Democratic former member of the Arizona State Senate, serving from 2015 to 2017. Prior to being appointed to the Senate, Sherwood was the Ranking Democratic member of the House Ways and Means committee and served on the House Appropriations committee and on the Joint Committee for Capital Review. During the first session of his term in office in 2013, Sherwood sponsored 10 bills as the Prime Prime Sponsor (indicating he is the author of the bill) and 47 bills as the Prime Sponsor. In the 2014 session, he introduced 10 pieces of legislation as the Prime Prime Sponsor, 46 bills as Prime Sponsor and 22 as Co-sponsor. In the 2015 session, he introduced 16 pieces of legislation as the Prime Prime Sponsor, 28 as Prime Sponsor and 21 as Co-Sponsor. Ed Ableser
Edward Zachary Ableser (born March 16, 1978) is a Democratic politician. He served in the Arizona Senate, representing the 26th district. His district included parts of Mesa, Tempe, and south Scottsdale. Previously he was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives. He resigned from public office in September 2015 to work in the Nevada Department of Education. Ableser was appointed to fill the state senate term of former state senator Harry Mitchell and subsequently ran successfully for the Arizona House of Representatives. The Arizona State Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Arizona. It is a bicameral legislature that consists of a lower house, the House of Representatives, and an upper house, the Senate. Juan Jose Mendez (born May 18, 1985) is an American politician and State Senator from Arizona. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Education Born and raised in Arizona, Mendez attended Tolleson Union High School and received an associate degree from Phoenix College. He later received a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, majoring in political science. Career Mendez was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2012. He served on the Insurance and Retirement Committee and the Reform and Human Services Committee. Mendez supports closing "tax loopholes" for out-of-state corporations, raising education funding, and more restrictions on gifts to legislators. He opposes Arizona SB 1070 and allowing guns in schools. Mendez is an atheist, and one of few atheist politicians serving in the United States. Arizona State Senate
The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents (2009 figures). Members serve two-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to four terms for a total of eight years. Members of the Republican Party are currently the majority in the Senate. There is currently 16 women serving in the Senate after Raquel Terán was appointed, making it the first time a majority of the body was composed of female members. As with the Arizona House of Representatives, members to the Senate are elected from the same legislative districts as House members, however one Senator represents the constituency, while for the House there are two Representatives per district.
