Andrew Proudfit
Andrew Proudfit (August 3, 1820 – November 12, 1883) was an American politician and businessman. Proudfit was born in Argyle, New York. In 1843, Proudfit and his family moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin Territory. He worked in the grain and bank business. Proudfit served as chairman of the Delafield Town Board. In 1854, Proudfit moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Proudfit served in the Wisconsin Senate The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Wisconsin Territory
The Territory of Wisconsin was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from July 3, 1836, until May 29, 1848, when an eastern portion of the territory was admitted to the Union as the State of Wisconsin. Belmont was initially chosen as the capital of the territory. In 1837, the territorial legislature met in Burlington, just north of the Skunk River on the Mississippi, which became part of the Iowa Territory in 1838. The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate.
