Andrew Moray (justiciar)
Sir Andrew Moray, Lord of Petty (died 8 April 1298) was Justiciar of Scotia. Life Andrew Moray was the younger son of Sir Walter de Moray, and a daughter of Sir Walter Olifard of Bothwell who was the son of Sir David Olifard of Bothwell. He and his son were amongst the Scottish noblemen captured following the Battle of Dunbar in 1296. Moray was imprisoned in the Tower of London, where he died on 8 April 1298. Andrew Murray (9 May 1828 – 18 January 1917) was a South African writer, teacher and Christian pastor. Murray considered missions to be "the chief end of the church Early life and education Andrew Murray was the second child of Andrew Murray Sr. (1794–1866), a Dutch Reformed Church missionary sent from Scotland to South Africa. He was born in Graaff Reinet, South Africa. His mother, Maria Susanna Stegmann, was of French Huguenot and German Lutheran descent. Murray was sent to the University of Aberdeen in Scotland for his initial education, together with his elder brother, John. Both remained there until they obtained their master's degrees in 1845. During this time they were influenced by Scottish revival meetings and the ministry of Robert Murray McCheyne, Horatius Bonar, and William Burns. Andrew Philip Drummond-Murray (born 3 July 1958), commonly known as Andrew Murray, is a British trade union and Labour Party official and activist. Murray was seconded from Unite the Union to Labour headquarters for the 2017 United Kingdom general election, subsequently becoming an adviser to Jeremy Corbyn from 2018 to 2020. Born into an aristocratic Scottish family, Murray began his career as a journalist and later became a senior official for various trade unions. Murray was chair of the Stop the War Coalition from its formation in 2001 until June 2011 and again from September 2015 to 2016. After forty years in the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) and then the Communist Party of Britain, he joined Labour towards the end of 2016. Andrew F (born December 28, 1990) is a Canadian Pop/Rock singer and songwriter born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Early life Andrew F started playing the drums at the age of 14 when he joined his first band ''Thirty Years' War''. He has also been frontman for a few other pop punk bands. Music Andrew F released his debut single "The End" which ended up becoming a huge success, peaking at Number 10 on the Canadian Hot 100 based on the large number of digital downloads, which was certified gold by the Music Canada months later. Andrew Dickson Murray FRSE FRPSE FLS (19 February 1812, Edinburgh – 10 January 1878, Kensington) was a Scottish lawyer, botanist, zoologist and entomologist. Murray studied insects which caused crop damage, specialising in the ''Coleoptera''. In botany, he specialised in the '' Coniferae'', in particular the Pacific rim conifer species. He served as president of the Royal Physical Society of Edinburgh during 1858–59. Life He was born at 17 Forth Street in Edinburgh, on 19 February 1812, and was son of William Murray WS of Conland (now part of Glenrothes) and Duncrivie (near Kinross), and his wife Mary Thompson (d.1871). Murray was apprenticed in law under his father, and became a Writer to the Signet in 1837, joined the firm of Murray & Rhind, and for some time practised in Edinburgh. Andrew Graham Murray, 1st Viscount Dunedin, (21 November 1849 – 21 August 1942) was a Scottish politician and judge. He served as Secretary for Scotland between 1903 and 1905, as Lord Justice General and Lord President of the Court of Session between 1905 and 1913 and as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary between 1913 and 1932. Background and education Murray was the son of Thomas Graham Murray WS LLD (1816-1891) and Caroline Jane Tod, daughter of John Tod. His father and grandfather were solicitors, and founding partners of the Edinburgh firm Tods Murray & Jamieson. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. Political and legal career, 1891–1905 Murray was called to the Scottish Bar in 1874 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1891. Sir Andrew Murray, 1st Lord Balvaird (1597?–1644) was a Scottish minister of Abdie in Fife, and the only minister of the Church of Scotland on whom a knighthood or peerage was conferred. Life He was the second son of David Murray of Balgonie, Fifeshire, by Agnes, daughter of Moncrieff of Moncrieff. He was educated at the University of St Andrews, where he graduated M.A. in 1618. In 1622 he was presented by his grandfather, Sir David Murray, 1st Viscount Stormont, to the church of Abdie, to which he was admitted on 1 October. On the death of his grandfather in 1631 he succeeded to the baronies of Arngask and Kippo in Fifeshire. During the visit of Charles I to Scotland for his coronation in 1633 he was, on 15 June, dubbed a knight at Seton. He was also the feudal Lord of Balvaird. Sir Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot Murray (19 December 1903 – 21 March 1977) was Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Scotland between 1947 and 1951, Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, and a Justice of the Peace. The son of Alfred Alexander Arbuthnot Murray and Bethany (née Moir), Murray was educated Daniel Stewart's College and George Heriot's School. He was elected a City Councillor of Edinburgh in 1929, and served as Hon. City Treasurer 1943–46. He was President of the Scottish Liberal Party Organisation 1961–65. He was also an Honorary Colonel of the 52nd (Queens Edinburgh Royal Scots) Searchlight, of the 130th Light Anti-Aircraft and of the 587th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. Andrew Murray (1813–1880) was an Australian journalist. Andrew Murray was born in Scotland, and educated at the Andersonian University in Glasgow, winning prizes as an essayist. He emigrated to Adelaide in 1839, and founded a drapery business in Hindley Street (at that time Adelaide's foremost shopping precinct) with George Greig as Murray, Greig, & Co. Murray married Jessie Spence, sister of Catherine Helen Spence, in 1841. In 1841, the business failed, and Murray was able to find employment as a journalist with the ''Southern Australian'', the second newspaper to be established in South Australia. In 1844, he purchased the ''Southern Australian'' from the proprietor, Richard Blackham, and was its editor and proprietor till the exodus of workers to the gold-fields of Victoria severely strained South Australia's economy, and the ''South Australian'', as Murray had renamed it, reverted from bi-weekly to weekly, then in July 1851 was forced to fold.
