Andrew Morton (computer Programmer)
Andrew Keith Paul Morton (born 1959) is an Australian software engineer, best known as one of the lead developers of the Linux kernel. He is currently a co-maintainer of the Ext3 file system, the journaling layer for block devices (JBD) and Memory Management. In the late 1980s, he was one of the partners of a company in Sydney, Australia that produced a kit computer called the Applix 1616, as well as a hardware engineer for the (now-defunct) Australian gaming equipment manufacturer Keno Computer Systems. He holds an honours degree in electrical engineering from the University of New South Wales in Australia. Morton maintains a Linux kernel patchset known as the ''mm'' tree, which contains work-in-progress patches that might later be accepted into the official Linux tree maintained by Linus Torvalds. Andrew Morton (1802–1845) was an English portrait-painter. Life Born at Newcastle upon Tyne on 25 July 1802, he was son of Joseph Morton, a master mariner there, and was an elder brother of Thomas Morton the surgeon. He came to London and studied at the Royal Academy, gaining a silver medal in 1821. He exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy in 1821. Morton had a large practice and numerous distinguished sitters for portraits. He died on 1 August 1845 and is buried at Highgate Cemetery. Works Morton was a frequent exhibitor of portraits, on which he concentrated, at the British Academy and British Institution. Andrew David Morton (born 1953) is an English journalist and writer who has published biographies of royal figures such as Diana, Princess of Wales, and celebrity subjects including Tom Cruise, Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Monica Lewinsky; several of his books have been unauthorised and contain contested assertions. Early life and career Morton was born and raised in Dewsbury, West Riding of Yorkshire, where his father ran a picture framing business. He attended Temple Moor High School, Temple Moor Boys' Grammar School, Leeds and Sussex University where he studied history. Andy Morton
Andy Morton (1882-1950) was a pioneering Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. An Australia international and New South Wales state representative backline player, he played club football for North Sydney and in England for Hull F.C. Playing career Morton played for the North Sydney club during the 1908 NSWRFL season, the first ever for rugby league in Australia. That season he played for New South Wales in the first ever interstate rugby league match. His club lost his services just before the finals, along with Norths' teammates Sid Deane, Jim Devereaux and Dinny Lutge as they had been selected to go on the 1908–09 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain. Morton was the first Australian to score a try in Britain: in their victory over Welsh club Mid-Rhondda in the first match of the tour. Weetangera, Australian Capital Territory
Weetangera () is a suburb in the Belconnen district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The suburb covers an area of approximately . Located approximately north-west of the city, Weetangera is bounded by Springvale Drive to the south and west, Coulter Drive to the east and Belconnen Way to the north. The Pinnacle Nature Reserve, a Canberra Nature Park is adjacent to the south of the suburb, across Springvale Drive. Etymology Weetangera is named after the original name of the property "Spring Vale", which in turn had been given a name of Aboriginal origin. In 1934, Australian journalist Frederic Slater claimed that the name "Wittanjirra" was an Aboriginal word meaning "to suck, to drink greedily", referring to a spring near the Weetangera Public School.
