Andrew Mitchell Torrance (1845 – 4 February 1909)Who's Who was a Scottish Liberal Party politician. Background He was born in Old Cumnock, East Ayrshire in 1845. He was educated at Cumnock parish school. In 1861 he was apprenticed to Peter Kelso & Co., muslin manufacturers of Glasgow. In 1863, moving to London, he worked for Smith, Anderson & Co. In 1875, he became a partner and the firm changed its name to Miller, Son, & Torrance.Glasgow Digital Library He was given a knighthood in 1906. Municipal career He was elected to the London County Council as a Liberal backed Progressive Party member representing Islington East. He was re-elected on every occasion until standing down in 1907. Glasgow Central is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (at Westminster). In its current form, the constituency was first used at the 2005 general election, but there was also a ''Glasgow Central'' constituency that existed from 1885 to 1997. Henry Mills (British Politician)
Henry Mills (1868 – 11 March 1928) was a British politician and anti-Sabbatarianist activist. In 1888, Mills became the secretary of the National Sunday League, an organisation which opposed Sabbatarianism. Under his leadership, it succeeded in legalising musical concerts on Sundays, and it ran successful excursions to seaside resorts on Sundays. He served for nine years as a Liberal Party alderman on Islington Metropolitan Borough Council, and in 1905/06, he served as Mayor of Islington. At the 1913 London County Council election, Mills was elected for the Progressive Party in Islington West. George Elliott (British Politician)
Sir George Samuel Elliott (1847 – 4 May 1925) was a British businessman and politician. Born in Islington, he was educated at the City of London School and entered business as a refreshment contractor with premises at Upper Street. In 1875, he was elected to Islington Vestry. He subsequently became a member of the Islington Board of Guardians: during his 38 years membership he was chairman for 20 years and vice-chairman for 9. When the first elections to the London County Council were held in January 1889, Elliott was elected as one of two councillors representing Islington South. Originally a member of the Liberal-backed Progressive Party, he was re-elected in 1892 and 1895. There was some doubt as to his party allegiance by the time of the 1898 election: as a Unionist he was seen as being aligned to the Conservative supported opposition Moderate Party, although he was nominated by the Progressives. Charles Dickson, Lord Dickson
Charles Scott Dickson FRSE LLD (13 September 1850, Glasgow – 5 August 1922) was a Scottish Unionist politician and judge. Life Charles was born in Glasgow the son of Dr John Robert Dickson. His elder brother was James Douglas Hamilton Dickson. Educated at the High School of Glasgow, the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh he was admitted to the bar as an advocate in 1877. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Kilmarnock Burghs in 1892, and Glasgow Bridgeton in 1895 and 1897. He was elected to and sat for Bridgeton from 1900 until 1906, when he was defeated. He then sat for Glasgow Central from March 1909 until his appointment as a judge in 1915. He rose to be Solicitor General for Scotland from 14 May 1896 to 1903 and as Lord Advocate from 1903 to 1905. From 1908 to 1915, he served as the elected Dean of the Faculty of Advocates. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1903.
