Andrew Jones (runner)
Andrew "Andi" Jones (born 10 October 1978, in Ashton-under-Lyne) is an English athlete who specialises in road, cross country, and mountain/fell running, and has competed for England and Great Britain. In 2003, he finished fourth in the World Mountain Trophy in Alaska. Closer to home, he competes for Stockport Harriers. Although one of the UK's leading distance runners, Andi chooses to work full-time alongside his running career and was employed as head of Design and Technology at Falinge Park High School, Rochdale. In 2014, Jones emigrated to Qatar. Andi became the first athlete for twelve years to retain the senior men's title at the 2007 English Northern Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park, Manchester. The last runner to win back-to-back crowns was Rossendale Harrier, Dave Lewis, in 1994 and 1995. In July 2009, Jones became the first male to win the Snowdon Race four times in a row. The Manchester Marathon is a long-distance running event in Greater Manchester, England. It was known as the Greater Manchester Marathon until the word "Greater" was dropped beginning with the (cancelled) 2020 edition of the race. The most recent marathon was held on 7 April 2019, and finished at Old Trafford Cricket Ground. The race was first held in 2012. 2011 European Mountain Running Championships
The 2011 European Mountain Running Championships were held on 10 July at Uludağ in Bursa, Turkey. They were that year's area championships for mountain running, held by the European Athletic Association in conjunction with the Turkish Athletic Federation. The competition featured four races, with senior and junior races for both men and women. A total of 221 runners from 26 nations started the competition. The men's race was 12.0 km long and featured an ascent of 1,245 m. The women's and junior men's races were 8.5 km long comprising a rise of 865 m. The junior women's race was 3.5 km over a hill of 405 m. Ahmet Arslan from Turkey took his fifth consecutive men's title, while Swiss Martina Strahl won the gold medal in senior women's category. Great Birmingham Run
The Great Birmingham Run is an annual half marathon road running event held in Birmingham, UK in October. Formerly known as the Birmingham Half Marathon, from 2011 it became part of the Great Run series of road races. Established in 2008, it incorporated the 2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. The 2009 event was televised live on Sky Sports and between 2011 and 2016 the race was televised live in the United Kingdom by Channel 5. In 2019, the race distance was reduced to 11.07 miles due to a security alert close to Cannon Hill Park. 2008 World Cross Country Championships
The 2008 IAAF World Cross Country Championships took place on March 30, 2008. The races were held at the Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Four races took place, one for men, women, junior men and junior women respectively. All races encompassed both individual and team competition.
