Andrew J. Carr
Andrew Jonathan Carr, Academy of Medical Sciences, FMedSci (born 1958 in Bradford, England) is a British surgeon and has been the sixth Nuffield Professor of Orthopaedics and head of the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford since 2001. Carr's research interests are primarily focused on developing and evaluating surgical technologies including joint replacement, arthroscopy and tissue engineering. He has led a number of UK-wide surgical randomized Clinical trials. With colleagues in Oxford he pioneered the involvement of patients in assessing the outcome of orthopaedic operations and has invented a series of patient reported outcome measures (PROMS). The Oxford Scores are now used worldwide in clinical trials and by national joint replacement registries. Bradford
Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Bradford had a population of 349,561 at the 2011 census; the second-largest population centre in the county after Leeds, which is to the east of the city. It shares a continuous built-up area with the towns of Shipley, Silsden, Bingley and Keighley in the district as well as with the metropolitan county's other districts. Clinical trials are prospective biomedical or behavioral research studies on human participants designed to answer specific questions about biomedical or behavioral interventions, including new treatments (such as novel vaccines, drugs, dietary choices, dietary supplements, and medical devices) and known interventions that warrant further study and comparison. The Hunterian Professorship, named after John Hunter (surgeon), John Hunter, is the title awarded to a surgeon who is elected to deliver the Hunterian lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE).
