Andrew G. Shead
Andrew G. Shead is head of the Old Testament department at Moore Theological College, Sydney, Australia, where he lectures in Hebrew, Old Testament and music. Life Shead earned a BSc (Med) (Sydney), a BTh, a MTh (ACT) and a PhD (Cantab). From 1998 Shead holds a PhD at the University of Cambridge with his doctoral dissertation ''Jeremiah 32 in its Hebrew and Greek Recensions'' under supervision of Robert P. Gordon. He has been on the faculty at Moore College since 1992. Among Shead's research interests it is included the book of Jeremiah, textual criticism, Hebrew poetry, and biblical theology. From 2016, Shead is a member of the New International Version Committee on Bible Translation, and maintains relationships with other international university educators. Shead is married and has three children. Shead has served in a number of churches around Sydney as an ordained Anglican minister. Moore Theological College, otherwise known simply as Moore College, is the theological training seminary of the Diocese of Sydney in the Anglican Church of Australia. The president of the Moore Theological College Council is ''ex officio'' the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney. New International Version
The New International Version (NIV) is an English translation of the Bible first published in 1978 by Biblica (formerly the International Bible Society). The ''NIV'' was created as a modern translation, by Bible scholars using the earliest and highest quality source manuscripts available, into broadly understood modern English. A team of 15 biblical scholars, representing a variety of evangelical denominations, worked from the oldest copies of reliable texts, variously written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Each section was subjected to multiple translations and revisions, and those assessed in detail to produce the best option. Everyday Bible readers were used to provide feedback on ease of understanding and comprehensibility. The Book of Jeremiah ( he, ספר יִרְמְיָהוּ) is the second of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible, and the second of the Prophets in the Christian Old Testament. The superscription at chapter Jeremiah 1:1–3 identifies the book as "the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah". Of all the prophets, Jeremiah comes through most clearly as a person, ruminating to his scribe Baruch about his role as a servant of God with little good news for his audience. The Masoretic Text (MT or 𝕸; he, נֻסָּח הַמָּסוֹרָה, Nūssāḥ Hammāsōrā, lit. 'Text of the Tradition') is the authoritative Hebrew and Aramaic text of the 24 books of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) in Rabbinic Judaism. The Masoretic Text defines the Jewish canon and its precise letter-text, with its vocalization and accentuation known as the ''mas'sora''. Referring to the Masoretic Text, ''mesorah'' specifically means the diacritic markings of the text of the Hebrew scriptures and the concise marginal notes in manuscripts (and later printings) of the Tanakh which note textual details, usually about the precise spelling of words.
