Andrew Downing (musician)
Great Uncles of the Revolution is a Canadian band that consists of Jesse Zubot, a violinist/mandolinist, and Steve Dawson, a guitarist/dobro player. Their musical style draws on contemporary bluegrass and jazz. History In 2001 the band released an album, ''Great Uncles of the Revolution Stand Up!''. Jazz trumpeter Kevin Turcotte plays on the album, along with bassist Andrew Downing, who composed much of the music. The album won a 2002 West Coast Music Award. Jesse Zubot
Jesse Zubot (of Britannia Beach, British Columbia) is a Canadian musician primarily known for his unique violin playing. Zubot also works as a composer, producer and recording engineer. History Zubot's acoustic-instrumental group Zubot and Dawson won a Juno Award in 2003 for Roots & Traditional Group Album of the Year. Zubot was also a member of 2004 Juno Award-winning group Great Uncles of the Revolution. Both groups released their albums on the Canadian roots label Black Hen Music although 'Zubot & Dawson' albums were ultimately licensed to True North Records. Since 2003 Zubot has toured with throat-singer Tanya Tagaq, Dan Mangan, 7 piece art-rock ensemble Fond of Tigers, Stars, Hawksley Workman, Ndidi Onukwulu, Jim Byrnes, Kelly Joe Phelps and many others. Steve Dawson (Canadian Musician)
Steve Dawson is a Canadian guitarist, singer, and music producer. Dawson has produced albums by Jim Byrnes, Kelly Joe Phelps, Old Man Luedecke, The Sojourners, and The Deep Dark Woods. He has won two Juno Awards. He frequently collaborates with keyboardist Chris Gestrin, bassist Keith Lowe and drummer Georr Hicks. He has been a member of the duo Zubot & Dawson, and of the group The Great Uncles of the Revolution. Career In 2001, Dawson came together with Jesse Zubot, Kevin Turcotte, and Andrew Downing to release an album, ''Great Uncles of the Revolution Stand Up!'', which won a Western Music Award. Kevin Turcotte
Kevin Turcotte is a trumpet player based in Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Turcotte is also on faculty at York University. Early life and education Turcotte grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Banff Centre, Banff School of Fine Arts. Career Turcotte has performed with Mike Murley and Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass, and has recorded with Barry Romberg (his playing was praised for its intuitiveness on ''All About Jazz''). In 2001 Turcotte joined the group Great Uncles of the Revolution. Their album ''Stand Up'' won a West Coast Music Award. In 2002, Turcotte was named trumpeter of the year in Canada's inaugural National Jazz Awards. The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal ( en, Montreal International Jazz Festival) is an annual jazz festival held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Montreal Jazz Fest holds the 2004 Guinness World Record as the world's largest jazz festival.
