Andrew Boylan (born January 1939) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician. Boylan was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cavan–Monaghan constituency at the 1987 general election, and retained his seat until losing it at the 2002 general election. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Overview For electoral purposes, the Republic of Ireland is divided into areas known as constituencies, each of which elects three, four, or five TDs. The 1987 Irish general election was held on Tuesday, 17 February, four weeks after the dissolution of the Dáil on 20 January. A continuing crisis over public finance had led to the collapse of Garret FitzGerald's coalition government and the dissolution. The 25th Dáil assembled at Leinster House on 10 March and Charles Haughey was appointed as Taoiseach leading a Fianna Fáil minority government.
