Andrew Beattie (politician)
Sir Andrew Beattie (6 August 1860 – 19 November 1923) was an Irish politician and public servant. Beattie was born in Rathfriland, County Down. For many years, both before and after the creation of the Irish Free State, he led the Unionist group on the Dublin City Council, of which he was an Alderman. He was also High Sheriff of Dublin, a Deputy Lieutenant for the City of Dublin, Commissioner of National Education for Ireland, and a Senator of the short-lived Parliament of Southern Ireland. He unsuccessfully contested the seat of West Down in the Parliament of the United Kingdom three times as an Independent Unionist. Beattie stood for election to the 4th Dáil in the 1923 general election as an Independent candidate in Dublin South. He failed to win the election by a margin of 490 votes less than the anti-Treaty Sinn Féin candidate Charles Murphy. Andy Beattie
Andrew Beattie (11 August 1913 – 20 September 1983) was a Scottish professional football player and manager. He was the first manager of the Scottish national team. Playing career Beattie was born in Kintore, Aberdeenshire and was employed as a young quarry-man at the Inverurie Loco Works. He was soon to join the Inverurie Loco Works FC where he established himself as an accomplished full-back before attracting the interest of English First Division club Preston North End. They paid £135 for him in March 1935, but World War II was to sadly interrupt his career and he made just 125 Football League appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring five goals, before retiring from his only professional club in March 1947. The war also curtailed a promising international career which saw him awarded seven Scotland caps between April 1937 and December 1938. Andy Beattie (rugby Union)
Andy Beattie (born 6 September 1978) is a retired English rugby union player. He played back row forward for Bath and Exeter Chiefs between 1997 and 2012. Career Beattie was educated at The Mall School, an independent school in Twickenham and at the independent Hampton School, in Middlesex, and at Exeter University, where he gained a degree in Sports Science. In 1997 he was a member of one of England's finest 18 Group sides, together with such players as Iain Balshaw, Mike Tindall, Jonny Wilkinson, Andrew Sheridan and Steve Borthwick. While at Exeter University, between 1997 and 2001, he played for Exeter RFC. After graduating from Exeter University he joined Bath. In 2004, Beattie started every Premiership match including the final against London Wasps at Twickenham.
