Andrew Bain (horn Player)
Andrew Bain is the principal horn player of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the horn instructor at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Biography Education Bain was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia. Remaining in his home town, he studied music at Brighton Secondary School'Special Interest Music Centrewhere he was 'Dux of Music' in 1990. Subsequently, he graduated from the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide for his undergraduate studies. He left Adelaide in 1994 to study with Geoff Collinson in Sydney and Hector McDonald in Vienna. He earned a Graduate Degree in 2003, from the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, Germany, studying with Will Sanders and specializing in Chamber Music. Andrew Bain is a singer and dentist from London, England, who signed a £1 million record deal with SonyBMG. Andrew became a practising NHS dentist when he was 24 in North London. Although he loved the community feeling that came from continued patient care, he put his dentistry career on hold to concentrate on his passion for music. Over the past 10 years as a dentist, Andrew fed his musical ambitions by using his holidays and spare time to sing in West-End choruses and amateur opera. His work included a tour with Cameron Mackintosh's production of ''Les Misérables'' in 1999 and Bill Kenwright's '' Whistle Down the Wind'' in 2002. It was Andrew's version of the Prince (musician) classic "Purple Rain", sung in an operatic style, that got him signed. Andrew Geddes Bain
Andrew Geddes Bain (baptised 11 June 1797 – 20 October 1864), was a South African geologist, road engineer, palaeontologist and explorer. Life history The only child of Alexander Bain and Jean Geddes, both of whom died when Bain was still a young boy, Bain was baptised 11 June 1797 in Thurso, Scotland. He was raised by an aunt who lived near Edinburgh. Here he received a classical education, but no vocational training. In 1816 he emigrated to Cape Town accompanied by his uncle Lieutenant Colonel William Geddes of the 83rd Regiment, who was stationed in the Cape. He married Maria Elizabeth von Backstrom on 16 November 1818 and had 3 sons and 7 daughters. In 1822 he bought property in Graaff Reinet and carried on for some years the business of a saddler. In 1825 he accompanied John Burner Biddulph on a trading expedition to Kuruman, the mission outpost on the edge of the Kalahari and home of Dr. Robert Moffat (father-in-law of David Livingstone).
