Andres Briner
Andres Briner (31 May 1923 – 1 June 2014) was a Swiss music historian, academic and art journalist Life Briner was born in Zürich and educated at the University of Zurich. In musicology he was a student of Paul Hindemith. In 1953 he received his doctorate from Antoine-Elisée Cherbuliez at the University of Zurich. From 1968, Briner was active at the as a member of the foundation board, and from 1986 to 1998 he was its president., Musinfo, retrieved on 20 December 2019. He worked with Rolf Liebermann at the Zurich Radio Studio from 1953 to 1955, after which he went to the Department of Music at the University of Pennsylvania, where he taught until 1964. From 1964 to 1988 he was the successor of Willi Schuh as editor of the feature section of the ''Neue Zürcher Zeitung'' in the fields of music and musicology. Hermann Danuser (born 3 October 1946) is a Swiss-German musicologist. Life Born in Frauenfeld, Danuser studied piano, oboe, musicology, philosophy and German language and literature at the Musikhochschule and the University of Zurich from 1965; he received his doctorate with a dissertation on musical prose. From 1973 he studied in Berlin with Carl Dahlhaus (musicology) and Gerhard Puchelt (piano). After working as a research assistant, he habilitated in 1982 at the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on ''the music of the 20th century'' (published in 1984). The New German School (german: link=no, Neudeutsche Schule, ) is a term introduced in 1859 by Franz Brendel, editor of the ''Neue Zeitschrift für Musik'', to describe certain trends in German music. Although the term has frequently been used in essays and books about music history of the 19th and early 20th centuries, a clear definition is complex. In addition, those held to be representatives of the "New German School" are not all practising musicians. The term is thus problematic.
