Andrei Vedernikov
Andrei Georgievich Vedernikov (russian: Андрей Георгиевич Ведерников; 1 October 1959 — 29 February 2020) was a Soviet cyclist. In 1981 he became the first Soviet cyclist to win the individual amateur road race at world championships, and was named the road racer of the year by the Union Cycliste Internationale. In 1980, he won the Vuelta Mexico Telmex. The ''Union Cycliste Internationale'' (UCI; ; en, International Cycling Union) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. Founded in 1954, since 2017 it has been rated as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. It is a stage race that usually includes five or more stages. The Tour of Britain is a multi-stage cycling race, conducted on British roads, in which participants race across Great Britain to complete the race in the fastest time. The event dates back to the first British stage races held just after the Second World War. Since then, various different events have been described as the Tour of Britain, including the Milk Race, the Kellogg's Tour of Britain and the PruTour.
