Vasilios Kotronias ( el, Βασίλειος Κοτρωνιάς; first name sometimes spelled ''Vassilios''; born 25 August 1964) is a Greek chess player and writer. He is a ten-time Greek champion (1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 2006, 2010, 2014). Kotronias was awarded the titles of International Master in 1986 and Grandmaster in 1990 by FIDE. Chigorin Memorial
The Chigorin Memorial is a chess tournament played in honour of Mikhail Chigorin (1850–1908), founder of the Soviet Chess School and one of the leading players of his day. The first and most important edition was the one played in 1909 in St. Petersburg. Later on, an international invitation Memorial tournament series was established, and mainly played in the Black Sea resort Sochi (from 1963 to 1990). Further irregular tournaments had been held in 1947, 1951, 1961, and 1972, played in diverse venues. From 1993 the venue returned to his hometown. The Memorial is now played as an Open event. St. Petersburg 1909 President of the organising committee was Peter Petrovich Saburov, President of the St. Petersburg Chess Club. Members of the committee were Boris Maliutin, O. Sossnitzky, V. Zhou Weiqi (; born 1 October 1986) is a Chinese chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2008. Career Born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, Zhou has competed twice (2000, 2002) in the Chinese national team in the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad with playing record of 19 games (+11, =3, −5). In the 2008 Aeroflot Open (A2 group), he came second with a performance rating of 2703. Sergey Volkov (chess Player)
Sergey Viktorovich Volkov (russian: Серге́й Ви́кторович Во́лков; born 7 February 1974) is a Russian chess grandmaster. He was Russian champion in 2000. Volkov competed in the FIDE World Championship in 2000, 2002, and 2004, and in the FIDE World Cup in 2007. Career Volkov won the Chigorin Memorial in 1998 and in the following year he was joint winner with Alexander Grischuk. He won it again in 2009. In 2000 Volkov won the Russian Chess Championship in Samara. He tied for second place at the 2002 European Individual Chess Championship in Batumi, eventually placing third behind Bartłomiej Macieja and Mikhail Gurevich on a tie-break. Shukhrat Safin (3 April 1970 – 20 September 2009) was an Uzbekistani chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1999. Safin shared first place with Mikhail Gurevich and Victor Mikhalevski in the Hogeschool Zeeland Tournament in Vlissingen. He finished third on tiebreak score. In 2001, Safin won the Uzbekistani Chess Championship. In late November of the same year, he took part in the FIDE World Championship. Here he was knocked out in the first round by Predrag Nikolić. Saidali Iuldachev ( uz, Saidali Yo‘ldoshev, script=Latn; born January 31, 1968) is an Uzbekistani chess Grandmaster (1997). Career He won Uzbekistani Chess Championship in 1993 and 2003.
