Andrei Cecan
Andrei Cecan (born June 20, 1976) is a Moldovan former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He is a single-time Olympian (2000), a sixth-place finalist at the 1999 Summer Universiade, and a member of Dinamo Chişinău. Cecan made his major international debut at the 1998 FINA World Championships in Perth, Australia. In the 400 m freestyle, he powered home with a fifteenth-place effort in the B-Final in a time of 3:56.68, trailing Hungary's Béla Szabados by two hundredths of a second (0.02). Cecan competed in the men's 200 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He posted a FINA B-time of 1:52.12 from the Summer Universiade in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. He challenged seven other swimmers in heat four, including Ukraine's Rostyslav Svanidze, a top 16 finalist in Atlanta four years earlier. The LA84 Foundation (known until June 2007 as the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles) is a private, nonprofit institution created by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to manage Southern California's endowment from the 1984 Olympic Games. Under an agreement made in 1979, 40 percent of any surplus was to stay in Southern California, with the other 60 percent going to the United States Olympic Committee. Dmitri Kuzmin (russian: Дмитрий Кузьмин; born September 9, 1977) is a Russian-born Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He is a single-time Olympian (2000), and a former Kyrgyzstan record holder in the 200 and 400 m freestyle. While playing for the Russian senior team, Kuzmin also earned a bronze medal, along with Maksim Korsunov, Dmitry Chernyshov, and Andrey Kapralov, in the 4×200 m freestyle relay at the 1999 European Aquatics Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Kuzmin competed in three swimming events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He cleared a FINA B-standard of 1:51.90 from the Russian National Championships in Moscow. Rostyslav Albertovych Svanidze ( uk, Ростислав Альбертович Сванідзе; November 5, 1971October 14, 2002) was a Ukrainian swimmer of Georgian descent, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He was a two-time Olympian (1996 and 2000), and a top 16 finalist in the 100 m freestyle at his Olympic debut in Atlanta (1996). As a member of Ukraine's senior national team, Svanidze had won a total of 37 swimming titles in middle-distance freestyle (100 and 200 m), and in freestyle relays (400 and 800 m). Although he never received a single medal in any international tournament, Svanidze was regarded as one of Ukraine's top swimmers in the post-independence era since the break-up of the Soviet Union.
