Andreas Garyfallos
Andreas Garyfallos (1931 – 17 February 2015) was a Greek water polo player, one of the greatest in the history of Greek water polo as he is considered the ''"Patriarch of Greek water polo"''. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1968 Summer Olympics as a player-coach. He won 17 Greek Championships during the 1947 to 1968 span (all of them without defeat except for 1964 and 1968) and 6 consecutive Greek Cups (1953-1958) with Ethnikos Piraeus Ethnikos Piraeus (Greek: Εθνικός Πειραιώς) is a Greek multisport club based in Piraeus. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. Ethnikos Piraeus Water Polo Club is the water polo team of Ethnikos OFPF (meaning: ''National Club of Fans of Piraeus and Phalerum,'' in Greek: ''Εθνικός Όμιλος Φιλάθλων Πειραιώς Φαλήρου''). Ethnikos is one of the most successful and traditional water polo clubs in Greece. They have won a record 38 Greek water polo championships and 12 Greek water polo cups (eight of them are consecutive, which is a record) with 9 Doubles. 1968 Summer Olympics
The 1968 Summer Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de 1968), officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad ( es, Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada) and commonly known as Mexico 1968 ( es, México 1968), were an international multi-sport event held from 12 to 27 October 1968 in Mexico City, Mexico. These were the first Olympic Games to be staged in Latin America and the first to be staged in a Spanish-speaking country. Greek Water Polo Cup
The Greek Water Polo cup is the second most important competition of Greece, Greek men's waterpolo and is organised by Hellenic Swimming Federation, KOE (Hellenic Swimming Federation). It was first held in 1953. Initially started as a competition in memory of Pantelis Psychas, Greek athlete of the swimming. The competition was interrupted from 1959 to 1983. Moreover, it wasn't held in 1993-94 season. From 1998-99 season the Final Four system was instituted.
