Andrea Stombuco
Andrea Giovanni Stombuco (1820-1907) was an Italian-born Australian sculptor and architect. Many of the buildings he designed are listed on the heritage registers in Australia. Early life Andrea Stombuco travelled widely and was involved in various business enterprises, including stone quarrying at Cape Town in South Africa. Career Victoria Andrea Stombuco emigrated to Victoria in 1851. After trying his luck on the goldfields, he established himself in Victoria as a sculptor, monumental mason, builder and architect, and found a patron in the Roman Catholic Church. He was the contractor for a number of Catholic churches in Victoria and for most of the stonework of Ballarat Cathedral. Career in New South Wales In 1869 Stambuco was appointed Architect for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Goulburn in New South Wales. Arthur Hunter Palmer
Sir Arthur Hunter Palmer (28 December 1819 – 20 March 1898) was an Irish-Australian politician who served as the fifth Premier of Queensland, in office from 1870 to 1874. He later held ministerial office in Thomas McIlwraith's ministry from 1879 to 1881, before serving as President of the Queensland Legislative Council from 1881 until his death in 1898. Early life Palmer was born in Armagh, Ireland, the son of Lieutenant Arthur Palmer, RN, and his wife, Emily ''née'' Hunter. Palmer was educated at Youghal Grammar School and by a private tutor in Dublin. Palmer emigrated to New South Wales in 1838, arriving in Sydney on the ''City of Edinburgh''. Palmer worked for many years for Henry Cary Dangar on his New England stations, eventually becoming general manager of all Dangar's holdings. Mintons was a major company in Staffordshire pottery, "Europe's leading ceramic factory during the Victorian era", an independent business from 1793 to 1968. It was a leader in ceramic design, working in a number of different ceramic bodies, decorative techniques, and "a glorious pot-pourri of styles - Rococo shapes with Oriental motifs, Classical shapes with Medieval designs and Art Nouveau borders were among the many wonderful concoctions". Bertholme
Bertholme is a heritage-listed detached house at 71-73 Moray Street, New Farm, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Andrea Giovanni Stombuco and built from 1882 to 1883. It is also known as the Moreton Club. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The land on which Bertholme stands was acquired in 1882 by Andrea Stombuco, the noted architect in Brisbane from 1875 to 1890-90, who also built Palma Rosa and designed Her Majesty's Opera House, Brisbane (1888).
